Buy and Sell with Gunfinder Auctions

Updated on July 14, 2026

Gunfinder offers its members the ability to buy and sell items through an auction process. Below, we briefly explain how the process works.

How can I place a bid on an auction?

If you've found an auction you like, you'll see a large green button on the auction page that says "Bid Now". After clicking it, a new smaller window will appear where you can enter your bid.
You have 2 options: either you enter just the next higher bid, or you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay for the auction. In the latter case, our automatic bid agent will take care of everything else.

How does the bid agent work?

The bid agent is a handy tool that helps you with bidding.
Let's say an auction is currently sitting at 10 euros. If you want to use the bid agent, simply enter the maximum amount you're willing to spend on that auction as your bid. The bid agent will then place the next higher bid on your behalf, making you the highest bidder.
If someone else is interested in the auction and places a bid, the bid agent will keep trying to outbid your competitors on your behalf until your maximum bid is reached.

Bid increments

To participate in an auction, your bid must be higher than the current bid by a specific amount. You can find the required bid increment in the table below:

Current price

Bid increment

€0.00 – €50

€0.50

€50.01 – €500

€1.00

€500.01 – €1,000

€5.00

€1,000.01 – €50,000

€10.00

€5,000.01 and above

€50.00

Example:

The current bid is €241. Your bid must then be at least €242 (241 + 1).

Reserve price

When buying and selling on Gunfinder auctions, the reserve price is a key factor.

The reserve price is the lowest amount a seller is willing to accept for their item.

This price is not visible to bidders and serves as a safeguard to ensure the item isn't sold below its value. It differs from the starting price, which is public.
For buyers, this means that bids below the reserve price are possible, but won't result in a sale until the reserve price is met. However, once a bid reaches or exceeds the reserve price, the item will be sold to the highest bidder from that point on.
From that moment, the auction works like a regular auction, waiting for higher bids to come in. It's advisable for sellers to set a realistic reserve price in order to generate interest while preserving the item's value.

How do I see my current bid on an auction?

If you've already placed a bid on an auction, we'll show you a large box on the auction page. It tells you both your current bid and your maximum bid (for the bid agent). We'll also let you know whether you're currently the highest bidder, or whether you might need to raise your bid.

What happens after an auction ends?

Once the auction has ended, it is closed to further bids.
The bidder with the highest bid wins the auction at that moment.

Winner

If you're the lucky winner of an auction, we'll notify you immediately by email. That email contains a link that takes you to the Gunfinder messaging system, where you can chat directly with the seller to sort out all the necessary details.

Runner-up

If your bid wasn't enough this time, we'll of course still let you know by email.
