Buying Guns: The Process in Detail

Updated on July 14, 2026

If you decide to get a quote for your firearm through our instant purchase service, the process is simple and transparent.

1. Enter Your Details

All we usually need from you are a few photos of your firearm and a brief description. If you have more information available — for example a WBK (Waffenbesitzkarte) — we're happy to include that too.

2. Who Buys My Firearm?

In many countries, buying and selling firearms requires special licenses. At Gunfinder, we place great importance on transparency and legal compliance. That's why we make sure all necessary licenses are in place and visible to you.

Here's how you can view and download the firearms dealer licenses:

  • During the purchase process: When you make an instant sale on Gunfinder, you'll be directed to the relevant licenses during the process. These are integrated directly into the flow, so you can be confident that all legal requirements are being met. Simply click the "Who buys my firearm?" link.

  • Download as PDF: For your records or for further verification, you can also download the firearms dealer licenses as a PDF. Simply click the relevant link or button in the purchase process, and the document will open automatically and be ready to download.

3. You Receive an Offer

Our experts usually only need 24 hours to put together an offer. As soon as that's done, we'll notify you immediately by email.

You can track the status of your instant sale at any time in your Gunfinder profile under "Instant Sales -> Manage". We'll also keep you updated by email at every step and whenever anything changes — so you're always in the loop.

4. You Accept the Offer

If you're happy with the offer you've received, you can accept it directly in your profile on Gunfinder. At that point, we'll ask you for three pieces of information:

  1. The address where the firearm should be picked up

  2. A date for us to come by

  3. Your IBAN for the bank transfer

Once you've provided us with this information, we get to work: we arrange a courier specializing in firearms, who will come by on your chosen date between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to collect the firearm.

We'll also upload a PDF order confirmation from the courier to your profile. This contains detailed information — such as what is being collected, when, and where. You can print it out and have the courier sign it at pickup, giving you documentation of the proper handover process for the authorities.

To make sure we can correctly identify the firearm, we'll also need the master data sheet for your firearm. If you don't have it to hand, a quick call or email to your local authority is usually all it takes — they typically send it to you by email the same day. You can find out more here: Upload master data sheet.

You can conveniently upload the master data sheet in your profile.

5. The Firearm Reaches Us

Once the firearm has arrived at our purchase service, it will be inspected by our experts. If everything is in order, we'll transfer the agreed amount to you the same day.

If there's an issue, we'll get in touch with you immediately by email and, in the worst case, send the firearm back to you. In our entire company history, this has only happened once.

6. We Handle the Paperwork

After the transfer, we take all the necessary documents to the authorities and have the firearm officially transferred to us. We'll then immediately send you the official transfer declaration in PDF format.

7. Deregister the Firearm

This is important: With the transfer declaration and your Waffenbesitzkarte, you must now go to your local authority and have the firearm removed from your record. In most cases, you can also do this by post.
