The Colt Diamondback is a revolver manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut, in the calibers .22 LR and .38 Special. Inspired by the successful Colt Python, the Diamondback was produced from 1966 to 1988 and was available in barrel lengths of 2.5; 4 and 6 inches. Colt introduced the Double-Action Diamondback as a Deluxe model. It features a wide, serrated target hammer, a ventilated rib, a fully adjustable target-quality sight, and a barrel underside that runs the full length. It is a 6-shot revolver with a swing-out cylinder, available in blue or nickel finishes. Visually, the Diamondback resembles a scaled-down version of the Python. While the Python is based on Colt's "I-Frame," the Diamondback is based on the smaller "D-Frame," as used in the Detective Special. The Diamondback was discontinued in 1988.
Due to the rarity of the Diamondback, it was very popular among gun enthusiasts. Saddam Hussein collected, among other things, the Colt Diamondback. Steve McQueen used a 2.5" .38 Special Colt Diamondback in the 1968 film Bullitt, and John Wayne used a 4" Colt Diamondback in the 1975 film Brannigan.

Der Colt Diamondback ist ein Revolver, der von Colt's Manufacturing Company aus Hartford , Connecticut , in den Kalibern .22 LR und .38 Special hergestellt wird. Inspiriert vom erfolgreichen Colt Python wurde der Diamondback von 1966 bis 1988 hergestellt und war in den Lauflängen 2,5; 4 und 6 Zoll erhältlich. Colt führte die Double-Action Diamondback als Deluxe-Modell ein. Es verfügt über einen breiten, gezahnten Zielhammer, eine belüftete Schiene, ein voll einstellbares Visier in Zielqualität und eine Laufunterseite über die gesamte Länge. Es handelt sich um einen 6-Schuss-Revolver mit ausschwenkbarer Trommel, der in den Ausführungen Blau oder Nickel erhältlich war. Optisch ähnelt der Diamondback einer verkleinerten Version des Python. Während der Python auf Colts „I-Frame“ basiert, basiert der Diamondback auf dem kleineren „D-Frame“, wie er im Detective Special verwendet wird. Der Diamondback wurde 1988 aus der Produktion genommen.
