Inspired by the successful Colt Python, the Diamondback was produced from 1966 to 1988 and was available in barrel lengths of 2.5; 4 and 6 inches. Colt introduced the Double-Action Diamondback as a Deluxe model. It features a wide, serrated target hammer, a ventilated rib, a fully adjustable target-quality sight, and a barrel underside that runs the full length. It is a 6-shot revolver with a swing-out cylinder, available in blue or nickel finishes. Visually, the Diamondback resembles a scaled-down version of the Python. While the Python is based on Colt's "I-Frame," the Diamondback is based on the smaller "D-Frame," as used in the Detective Special. The Diamondback was discontinued in 1988. Due to the rarity of the Diamondback, it was very popular among gun enthusiasts. Saddam Hussein collected, among other things, the Colt Diamondback.
