“MANUFACTURA ESPECIAL DE REVOLVERES / GARATE ANITUA Y Cª. EIBAR. (SPAIN)

Rare Spanish revolver, manufactured for British forces in World War I.

The British Army was opposed to the use of automatic pistols for military purposes and approved on November 8, 1915, two specially made “Smith” revolvers from Eibar in “British” caliber 455: the first, manufactured by “Garate, Anitua y Ca”, which was introduced as
“Pistol O.P. (Old Pattern) with 5-inch barrel No. 1 Mark 1”, and the second, manufactured by “Trocaola, Aranzabal y Ca”, which was introduced as “Pistol O.P. with 5-inch barrel No. 2 Mark 1”. 30,000 pieces were ordered by the British, and only 29,558 were delivered in July 1916.
In November 1921, these were already decommissioned.

These are just information from the internet, I have no exact history of the revolver

“MANUFACTURA ESPECIAL DE REVOLVERES / GARATE ANITUA Y Cª. EIBAR.

„Pistole O.P.
