Pistole US Colt 1911 Gold Cup National Match, Kal. 45ACP. Die Selbstladepistole Colt 1911 wurde 1911 von den U.S. Streitkräften als Standartwaffe eingeführt. Der Colt 1911 stand und steht Pate für Handfeuerwaffen auf der ganzen Welt. Den Entwicklungsanstoß für die Colt 1911 Pistole lieferte der amerikanisch-philippinische Krieg, in dessen Verlauf amerikanische Truppen immer wieder in Nahkämpfe verwickelt wurden. Hierbei zeigte sich der Bedarf an einer Munition mit einer hohen Mannstoppwirkung und an einer dafür ausgelegten Waffe.
Der Colt 1911 wurde in zahlreichen Konflikten eingesetzt und bewährte sich in zahlreichen Situationen. Ihre Zuverlässigkeit sicherte ihren Verbleib in der Bewaffnung der US-Streitkräfte, und das bis 1985. Der Verbleib einer Waffe über 74 Jahre im aktiven Militärgebrauch ist der wahrscheinlich der beste Qualitätsbeweis denn es gibt. Bis heute ist die Faszination für diese Waffe ungebrochen.
