Leather frog and fist strap defective // AK 6h3 bayonet Romania

Romanian leather frogs of corresponding quality. I am open to price suggestions..

They arrived a bit dry and stiff, which is why I researched online how to make brittle leather workable again. I treated the frogs with linseed oil to restore their flexibility. It worked, but the leather turned a brownish color and emitted a strong linseed oil smell (one should not believe everything seen in YouTube DIY video tutorials, as I now know).

However, I washed the leather again, rubbed it down, and treated it with leather grease. The frogs no longer have a strong odor and do not color transfer as much (it is possible to touch them or place them on something). If you want to use the frogs, I would only do so with a piece of clothing that is already dirty or can become irreparably dirty, as it is to be expected that the leather may still transfer color over time and especially on light fabrics due to pressure and friction.

Also, the leather is still somewhat brittle and already cracked in some places. Therefore, I would recommend using the pieces as decoration. Frog 1 is actually still in quite good condition, while the other frogs have character.

The fist strap No. 5 is unfortunately a bit hardened and has torn at one point on the side of the grain leather, and is only held together by the flesh side. With luck and skill, it can still be mounted, or used as a template for a handmade strap.
