The Heckler & Koch MR223 is the civilian version of the HK G38 or HK416 assault rifle used by various military and police units around the world. The weapon is currently "state of the art" in terms of quality, reliability, and precision in its category. The civilian version differs only in minor modifications to the dimensions of the essential parts (so that no parts can be exchanged with KWKG weapon parts) as well as in function, which is limited to semi-automatic and not fully automatic firing sequences.
The MR223 A3 is the third generation of the weapon and features several improvements over its predecessors, such as the hard-chromed barrel, compatibility with other lower receivers from other manufacturers of AR-15 type weapons, as well as a wider range of AR-type magazines that work with the system. Additionally, the weapon is now ambidextrous, as the bolt catch and magazine release have been made usable on both sides of the lower receiver. This allows for a clean transition from right to left shooting positions, or easy operation for left-handed shooters.
Also new is the installed Slim-Line handguard with HKey interface at 3 and 9 o'clock, as well as Picatinny rails at 12 and 6 o'clock for attaching weapon accessories such as vertical grips, barricade stops, etc. This has significantly improved handling and reduced the weight of the fore-end. The MR223 A3 comes standard with the classic M15x1 NATO muzzle brake. The stock is adjustable and also from the newer Slim-Line series from HK, making the weapon very maneuverable.
Technically, it features the already well-proven rotating bolt closure with indirect gas pressure drive, which was also used in the G36. Through gas extraction, a portion of the gas pressure generated during firing is directed to the gas cylinder (under the front of the handguard), which in turn exerts pressure on the drive rod. This then strikes the bolt carrier, which initiates the reloading process. The system has the advantage that, unlike classic AR systems, residue and dirt from the reloading process remain in the front area of the handguard and do not enter the system housing. This results in a very safe system that is significantly less prone to malfunctions than classic AR systems driven by a gas tube.
The MR223 A3 is available in three different barrel lengths: 16.5" / 14.5" and 11", as well as in two colors: black and sand (previously referred to as RAL8000).
Das Heckler & Koch MR223 ist die Zivilversion des HK G38 bzw. HK416 Sturmgewehrs diverser Miliär und Polizeieinheiten auf der Welt. Die Waffe ist derzeit "state of the art" in Bezug auf Qualität, Zuverlässigkeit und Präzision in ihrer Kategorie. Die Zivilversion unterscheidet sich dabei lediglich in geringfügigen Abänderungen der Bemaßungen der wesentlichen Teile (damit keine Teile mit KWKG Waffenteilen ausgetauscht werden können) als auch in der Funktion, welche auf halbautomatische und nicht vollautomatische Schussfolgen begrenzt ist.
Das MR223 A3 ist die dritte Generation der Waffe und weist einige Verbesserungen zu ihren Vorgängern auf, wie z.B. das hartverchromte Rohr, Kompatibilität zu anderen Lower-Receivern (Untere Gehäusehälften) von anderen Herstellern von AR-15 Typ Waffen sowie ein breiteres Spektrum an Magazinen des AR Typs die mit dem System funktionieren. Ebenfalls ist die Waffe nun beidseitig bedienbar, da der Verschlussfang als auch der Magazinauswurf auf beiden Seiten der unteren Gehäusehälfte nutzbar gemacht wurde. Dies ermöglicht einen sauberen Wechsel von Rechts- auf Linksanschlag, bzw. die problemlose Bedienung von Linksschützen.
Ebenfalls neu ist der verbaute Slim-Line Handschutz mit HKey Schnittstelle auf 3 und 9 Uhr sowie Picatinny Schienen auf 12 und 6 Uhr zur Anbringung von Waffenzubehör wie z.B. Sturmgriffe, Barricade Stops usw.. Hierbei wurde das Handling erheblich verbessert als auch das Gewicht des Vorderschafts reduziert. Serienmäßig hat das MR223 A3 den klassischen M15x1 NATO Mündungsfeuerdämpfer. Die Schulterstütze ist ausziehbar und ebenfalls aus der neueren Slim-Line Reihe von HK und macht die Waffe sehr führig.
Technisch handelt es sich um den bereits beim G36 sehr bewährten Drehkopfverschluss mit indirektem Gasdruckantrieb. Über die Gasentnahme wird ein Teil des beim Schuss entstehenden Gasdrucks auf den Gaszylinder (unter Vorderseite des Handschutzes) geleitet, welcher wiederum auf die Antriebsstange einen Druck ausübt. Dies schlägt dann wiederum auf den Verschlussträger, welcher dann den Nachladevorgang einleitet. Das System hat den Vorteil, dass im Gegensatz zu klassischen AR-Systemen Schmauch und Verschmutzung durch den Nachladeprozess im vorderen Bereich des Handschutzes bleibt und nicht in das Systemgehäuse Einzug findet. Daraus resultiert ein sehr sicheres System das erheblich weniger störungsanfälliger ist als klassische AR Systeme mit Antrieb über ein Gasrohr.
Das MR223 A3 ist mit drei unterschiedlichen Lauflängen erhältlich: 16,5" / 14,5" und 11" sowie in zwei Farben: schwarz und sandfarben (früher als RAL8000 bezeichnet).
