The USP (Universal Self-Loading Pistol) is manufactured by Heckler & Koch in Oberndorf am Neckar. Made from polyamide with high glass fiber content, the USP is a weapon resistant to chemicals, wear, and temperature differences. The barrel and slide are made of steel. The USP uses a modified Browning system, which is significantly cheaper and more robust compared to the roller lock system of the P9S and the gas-delayed blowback system of the P7. Overall, the weapon proved to be very robust and reliable in tests from -42°C to +67°C. The weapon is available in calibers 9 x 19 mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. A modified variant of the USP is introduced in the Bundeswehr under the name P8, with a different safety or without safety as a combat variant, as well as with a rifled barrel instead of the polygonal barrel and a transparent magazine. The USP Compact is used in Germany under the name P10 as a service weapon for the police in several states (including Saarland). Furthermore, it is also used in the corresponding correctional facilities of the states. For sporting purposes, the models USP Match, USP Expert, USP Elite, and USP Custom Sport were developed with barrel lengths from four to six inches and sporting sights. The USP Match model was discontinued in 1999 and is no longer offered for sale by Heckler & Koch.

Die Pistole USP (Universale Selbstladepistole) wird von Heckler & Koch in Oberndorf am Neckar hergestellt. Gefertigt aus Polyamid mit hohen Glasfaseranteilen ist die USP eine gegen Chemikalien, Verschleiß und Temperaturunterschiede beständige Waffe. Lauf und Verschluss bestehen aus Stahl. Die USP nutzt ein modifiziertes Browning-System, das gegenüber dem Rollenverschlusssystem der P9S und dem gasgebremsten Masseverschlusssystem der P7 wesentlich billiger und robuster ist. Insgesamt erwies sich die Waffe bei Tests von 42°C bis +67 °C als sehr robust und zuverlässig. Erhältlich ist die Waffe in den Kalibern 9 x 19 mm, .40 S&W und .45 ACP. Bei der Bundeswehr ist eine modifizierte Variante der USP unter dem Namen P8 eingeführt, mit anderer Sicherung bzw. ohne Sicherung als Combatvariante sowie mit einem gezogenen anstatt des Polygonlaufs und transparentem Magazin. Die USP Compact wird in Deutschland unter dem Namen P10 als Dienstwaffe der Polizei einiger Länder (u. a. des Saarlands) eingesetzt. Darüber hinaus findet sie auch Verwendung in den entsprechenden Justizvollzugsanstalten der Länder. Für sportliche Zwecke wurden die Modelle USP Match, USP Expert, USP Elite und USP Custom Sport mit Lauflängen von vier bis sechs Zoll sowie sportlicher Visierung entwickelt. Das Modell USP Match wurde im Jahr 1999 eingestellt und wird von Heckler & Koch nicht mehr zum Verkauf angeboten.
