The .357 SIG has a very high muzzle velocity for a handgun cartridge, which gives the projectile a particularly stable ballistic trajectory and thus results in a relatively high range. This is roughly achieved by modifying a .40 S&W caliber case into a bottleneck case to be able to use a ".357" projectile (9 mm projectile). This significantly increases range and penetration power.
In addition to sports shooting, it is also a good caliber for a follow-up shot, as one can rely on lightweight polymer pistols for more comfortable carrying instead of heavy Magnum revolvers. It is used in semi-automatic pistols, e.g., from GLOCK (G31).

Die .357 SIG hat für eine Kurzwaffen-Patrone eine sehr hohe Mündungsgeschwindigkeit, was dem Geschoss eine besonders stabile ballistische Flugbahn erteilt und damit eine relativ hohe Reichweite zur Folge hat. Erreicht wird das grob beschrieben damit, indem eine Hülse vom Kaliber .40 S&W so zur Flaschenhalshülse modifiziert wird, dass ein ".357er" Geschoss (9 mm Geschoss) verwenden zu können. Damit wird Reichweite und die Durchschlagskraft signifikant gesteigert.
Neben dem Sportschießen auch ein gutes Fangschusskaliber, da man an Stelle von schweren Magnum-Revolver auf leichte Polymerpistolen für bequemeres Tragen zurückgreifen kann. Findet Verwendung in Selbstladepistolen z. B. von GLOCK (G31)
