In 1836, Samuel Colt received the US patent for the first Colt firearm and built his first factory. In 1847, Samuel H. Walker collaborated with Colt and the US Army to develop a stronger revolver known as the Walker. In 1867, COLT introduced its first Gatling Gun. In 1873, the Single Action Army Revolver was introduced, securing Colt a contract with the US government. In 1911, the "Model 1911" was officially adopted by the US government as a service weapon. In 1963, Colt received its first government contract for the M16 rifle.
