Once, the first assault rifle in history was built and developed at C.G. Haenel in Suhl. The CR 223 is a semi-automatic rifle with piston system in caliber .223 Rem. based on the legendary AR 15 system. As a modern self-loader in centerfire configuration, the Haenel CR 223 also functions as a gas-operated loader with rotating bolt. The telescopic buttstock is adjustable in six lengths. The rifle features a free-floating, cold-hammered barrel. M-LOK handguard The aluminum handguard features two Picatinny rails (STANAG 4694, top/bottom).
