With the brand new SAUER 404, the famous traditional company presents a bolt-action rifle that perfectly combines the accumulated knowledge from practice, 21st-century technology, and the aesthetic roots from 264 years of J. P. Sauer & Sohn. It is the logical consequence of the previously successful bolt-action rifle series and, in the sum of its properties, undoubtedly the best SAUER of all time. With its partly revolutionary solutions regarding safety, ergonomics, precision, performance, and flexibility, it is the perfect tool for today's hunting.
Manual cocking
The S 404 impresses with a patented safety concept, the centerpiece of which is the completely newly developed manual cocking. The metal slider, perfectly placed ergonomically on the bolt, allows not only comfortable but also silent cocking of the rifle, as the integrated safety button in the rear third is automatically dampened by the soft tissue of the thumb. By pressing the button again, the cocking slider – automatically controlled by the thumb – glides back into the relaxed position.
Automatic firing pin safety
In addition to the manual cocking, an automatic firing pin safety operates inside the S 404, preventing the rifle from firing as long as it is not fully locked. And to open the weapon – for example, when loading and unloading – in the relaxed state, it is sufficient to push the cocking slider forward by two millimeters while simultaneously unlocking the chamber.
Protection against unauthorized access
Minimal effort, maximum effect: With two simple hand movements, the locking head can be separated from the chamber. This ensures 100 percent that no unauthorized person can fire the S 404. An essential plus in safety that, thanks to the simplest handling and the pocket-sized format of the locking head, is truly practical.
More control – the SAUER Quattro trigger
Four different trigger weights selectable by the shooter
No hunt is like another, and every person has a different tactile feeling. The revolutionary SAUER Quattro trigger concept takes this fact into account in a unique way. With the help of the integrated SAUER Universal Key SUS in the rifle, the shooter can now easily and within seconds choose between four different trigger weights. And no matter which resistance the hunter uses: the SAUER Quattro impresses with a characteristic that redefines "bone dry." Thus, from the ultra-precise bullet on the shooting range or in the mountains to the driven hunt in icy temperatures, every situation is optimally addressed.
Adjustable trigger in length and radial position
Only the optimal position of the shooting finger on the trigger ensures clean pulling and controlled hitting. But every hand is different, and that is exactly what the SAUER Quattro now addresses. With an eight millimeter adjustment path in length and a 5-degree swivel range to the left and right, it guarantees every shooter the perfect contact with the crucial control element when it comes to hitting. But that's not all: the extra wide and perfectly curved trigger ensures that the shooting finger is optimally received and positioned. And the longitudinal grooves, firmly established in the sports sector, create the decisive synaptic contact between the brain and trigger finger even with the slightest touch, so that the shot release occurs without any
mental delay occurs. This means instinctive hitting and no compromises, because now the weapon finally adapts to the shooter – and not the other way around.
The screws can now be operated with the integrated SAUER universal key SUS in the weapon. The combo element placed at the front of the housing not only serves to take up the fore-end without tension but is also a wedge that makes removing and inserting the barrel child's play. Thanks to the radial fixation of the barrel taken from the S 202 Take Down, the S 404 shoots absolutely consistently at the impressive level of SAUER rifles.

Handspannung
Die S 404 besticht durch ein patentiertes Sicherheits-Konzept, dessen Herzstück die völlig neu entwickelte Handspannung ist. Der ergonomisch perfekt auf dem Schlösschen platzierte Metall-Schieber erlaubt nicht nur bequemes, sondern auch lautloses Spannen der Büchse, da der im hinteren Drittel integrierte Sperrknopf automatisch vom weichen Gewebe des Daumens gedämpft wird. Durch erneutes Drücken des Knopfes gleitet der Spannschieber – vom Daumen automatisch kontrolliert – in die entspannte Position zurück.
Automatische Schlagbolzensicherung
Zusätzlich zur Handspannung wirkt im Inneren der S 404 eine automatische Schlagbolzensicherung, die ein Abfeuern der Büchse verhindert, so lange diese nicht vollständig verriegelt ist. Und um die Waffe – zum Beispiel beim Laden und Entladen – im entspannten Zustand zu öffnen, genügt es, den Spannschieber um zwei Millimeter nach vorn zu schieben und gleichzeitig die Kammer zu entriegeln.
Schutz vor unbefugtem Zugriff
Minimaler Aufwand, maximale Wirkung: Mit zwei simplen Handgriffen lässt sich der Verriegelungskopf von der Kammer trennen. So ist 100-prozentig sichergestellt, dass kein Unbefugter die S 404 abfeuern kann. Ein essenzielles Plus an Sicherheit, das Dank einfachster Handhabung und dem Hosentaschen-Format des Verriegelungskopfes auch wirklich praxistauglich ist.
Mehr Kontrolle – der SAUER Quattro Abzug
Vier verschiedene Abzugsgewichte vom Schützen wählbar
Keine Jagd ist wie die andere, und jeder Mensch hat ein unterschiedliches taktiles Empfinden. Das revolutionäre SAUER Quattro Abzugs-Konzept trägt dieser Tatsache auf einmalige Weise Rechnung. Denn mit Hilfe des in der Waffe integrierten SAUER Universal-Schlüssels SUS kann der Schütze jetzt ganz einfach und innerhalb weniger Sekunden zwischen vier verschiedenen Abzugsgewichten wählen. Und egal, welchen Widerstand der Jäger nutzt: der SAUER Quattro begeistert mit einer Charakteristik, die „knochentrocken“ neu definiert. So ist von der ultra-präzisen Kugel auf dem Schießstand oder im Gebirge bis hin zur Drückjagd bei eisigen Temperaturen jeder Situation optimal Rechnung getragen.
In Länge und radialer Position einstellbarer Abzug
Erst die optimale Position des Schießfingers am Züngel sorgt für sauberes Abziehen und kontrolliertes Treffen. Aber jede Hand ist anders, und genau darauf hat der SAUER Quattro nun die Antwort. Mit acht Millimeter Verstellweg längs und je 5 Grad Schwenkbereich nach links und rechts garantiert er jedem Schützen den perfekten Kontakt zu dem entscheidenden Bedienteil, wenn es um Treffer geht. Doch damit nicht genug: Das extra breite und perfekt geschwungene Züngel sorgt dafür, dass der Schießfinger optimal aufgenommen und positioniert wird. Und die im Sportbereich fest etablierten Längsrillen. im Abzug stellen schon bei geringster Berührung den entscheidenden synaptischen Kontakt zwischen Gehirn und Abzugsfinger her, so dass die Schussauslösung ohne jeglichen gedanklichen Verzug erfolgt. Das heißt instinktives Treffen und keine Kompromisse, denn jetzt passt sich endlich die Waffe dem Schützen an – und nicht umgekehrt.
Die Schrauben können nun mit dem in der Waffe integrierten SAUER Universal-Schlüssel SUS bedient werden.
Das vorn im Gehäuse platzierte Kombi-Element dient nicht nur der spannungsfreien Aufnahme des Vorderschafts, sondern ist gleichzeitig ein Keil, der das Herausnehmen und Einstecken des Laufes zum Kinderspiel macht.
Dank der von der S 202 Take Down übernommenen Radial-Fixierung des Laufes schießt die S 404 absolut wiederkehrgenau auf dem beeindruckenden Niveau von SAUER-Büchsen.
