Orcrist, the sword of Thorin Oakenshield The original film sword from The Hobbit by United Cutlery In the Third Age of Middle-earth, Thorin Oakenshield and his company of dwarves stumble upon a troll cave in Rhûdaur. Thorin finds an ancient elven blade named Orcrist (=Orc-slayer), forged by the High Elves of the West in Gondolin. Thorin claims Orcrist for himself and vows to slay orcs with it once more. He carries the sword on the journey to Erebor and uses it against the orcs and goblins of the Misty Mountains. The orcs call it Biter and fear and hate it equally. Orcrist's blade has the shape of a curved leaf on one side and a straight edge on the opposite side. The blade design is suitable for slaying orcs and goblins. An emblem of the coat of arms of Ecthelion, the Lord of the Fountain, adorns the sword's pommel. The grip is shaped from the tooth of a dragon. It is uncertain whether this tooth was incorporated before the Fifth Battle of the First Age or was added later along with the inscription, after the fall of Gondolin. Inscriptions on the sword in elvish runes: On the crossguard, the name Orcrist (= Orc-slayer) can be read. On both sides of the blade, The Serpent's Tooth (= Dragon's Tooth) can be read. This authentic and detailed replica is a reproduction of the prop from the film The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey, which was created by Weta Workshop in New Zealand.
