When manufacturing striking tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, forging offers many clear advantages. Using multiple dies (cavities/molds) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is shaped and pressed step by step into a fully homogeneous mass to achieve a uniform grain flow and minimize the formation of voids. All Cold Steel® tomahawks have also been differentially hardened: the edge and the striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened to allow for a sharp grind, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shock and impact. Frontier Hawk, Flach Strukturiertes FinishDrop Forged Tomahawks Die hochwertigen Cold Steel® Tomahawks wurden in Präzisionsarbeit aus Karbonstahl 1055 gesenkgeschmiedet. Bei der Herstellung von Schlagwerkzeugen, insbesondere denjenigen, die mit einer Schneidkante ausgestattet sind, bietet das Gesenkschmieden viele klare Vorteile. Mithilfe von mehreren Gesenken (Hohlformen/Matrizen), die mit gewaltigen Schmiedehammern verbunden sind, wird der Stahl Schritt für Schritt zu einer vollständig homogenen Masse geformt und stoßgepresst, um einen gleichmäßigen Faserverlauf zu erzielen und die Bildung von Fehlstellen zu minimieren. Alle Cold Steel® Tomahawks wurden außerdem differenziell gehärtet: Die Schneide und die Schlagfläche des Hammers sind vollgehärtet, um scharf geschliffen werden zu können, während der Rest des Kopfes weicher gehalten wird, um Schock- und Stoßwirkung abzufedern.
