The Steyr M1912 (also known as Steyr 1912 and Steyr-Hahn) is an Austrian pistol in caliber 9 × 23 mm and 9 × 19 mm. It was produced from 1912 to 1945 and used in World War I and World War II by Austrian, German, and allied forces. The M1912 uses a stronger ammunition, and the locking mechanism features a rotating barrel. After the shot is fired, the barrel moves back a short distance with the slide, but is then rotated 30° by guides milled into the frame, unlocking the slide. This solution was extremely reliable. Unlike the German Pistol 08, not only was the loading mechanism (fixed magazine box in the grip, filled via loading strips) better protected against contamination, but it also proved to be more tolerant of variations in cartridge loading. However, the German pistol was quicker to load thanks to its interchangeable magazines and had a more favorable grip angle. Approximately 300,000 units of the Steyr M1912 were produced.

Die Steyr M1912 (auch bekannt als Steyr 1912 und Steyr-Hahn) ist eine österreichische Pistole im Kaliber 9 × 23 mm und 9 × 19 mm. Sie wurde von 1912 bis 1945 produziert und im Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg von österreichischen, deutschen und mit ihnen verbündeten Streitkräften genutzt. Die M1912 verwendet eine stärkere Munition, die Verriegelung bewirkt ein drehbarer Lauf. Nach dem Auslösen des Schusses setzt der Lauf eine kurze Strecke mit dem Schlitten zurück, wird dann aber durch im Gehäuse eingefräste Kulissen um 30° gedreht und entriegelt damit den Schlitten. Diese Lösung war überaus zuverlässig. Im Gegensatz zur deutschen Pistole 08 war nicht nur der Lademechanismus (fest verbauter Magazinkasten im Griff, der über Ladestreifen befüllt wird) besser gegen Verschmutzung geschützt, sondern erwies sich auch als toleranter gegenüber Schwankungen der Patronenlaborierung. Dafür war die deutsche Pistole dank ihrer Wechselmagazine schneller zu laden und hatte einen günstigeren Griffwinkel. Von der Steyr M1912 wurden etwa 300.000 Stück gebaut.
