Extrema Ratio SELVANS EXPEDITIONS - an outdoor knife made for professional explorers. Originally, the Expeditions series was specifically developed for military special forces and operational teams with the aim of providing the highest reliability and flexible application possibilities. In the development, none other than Master Advanced Instructor Daniele Dal Canto was involved; for those who do not know him: Daniele is one of the most well-known Italian survival experts and enjoys high recognition worldwide.
As a basis for development, the well-known survival knife ONTOS (Greek for "the thing") was used, a military field knife, very solid, heavy but still compact. The Expeditions series utilizes this base and defining shape but extends the handle for more freedom in handling. The blade was also made slightly heavier to improve not only cutting but also chopping functions.
The knife sheath is also simply brilliantly thought out: The material used is tear-resistant Cordura in desert tan, equipped with a MOLLE system for attachment, a safety shoulder strap, and a mini pocket that contains a paracord cord with a flammable thread. Why? Well, because one can also start a fire under adverse conditions with the side-mounted fire steel, quite simply.

Extrema Ratio SELVANS EXPEDITIONS - ein Outdoor-Messer gemacht für professionelle Entdecker. Ursprünglich wurde die Expeditions-Serie speziell für militärische Spezialeinheiten und Einsatzteams entwickelt mit dem Anspruch höchste Zuverlässig - und flexible Anwendungsmöglichkeiten zu bieten. So war in die Entwicklung kein geringerer als Master Advanced Instructor Daniele Dal Canto eingebunden, wer ihn nicht kennt: Daniele ist einer der bekanntesten italienischen Survival Experten und genießt auch weltweit hohe Anerkennung.
Als Basis für die Entwicklung diente das bekannte Survival-Messer ONTOS (Griechisch für „das Ding“) ein militärisches Feldmesser, sehr solide, schwer aber trotzdem kompakt. Die Expeditions Reihe nutzt diese Basis und bestimmende Formgebung, verlängert aber den Griff für mehr Freiheit im Handling. Ebenso wurde die Klinge etwas schwerer gemacht um neben Schneide- auch die Hackfunktion zu verbessern.
Auch die Messerscheide ist eine einfach genial durchdacht: Als Material kommt reißfestes Cordura im Wüsten-Tan zum Einsatz, ausgestattet mit MOLLE-System zum Befestigen, einem Sicherheits-Schultergurt und einer Minitasche, die eine Paracord-Schnur mit brennbarem Faden enthält. Warum? Na, weil mal so auch unter widrigen Bedingungen mit dem seitlich angebrachten Feuerstahl ein Feuer entzünden kann, ganz einfach.
Fazit: Das Extrema Ratio SELVANS EXPEDITIONS ist ein Super Outdoor-Messer das nicht nur für alle Schneidearbeiten oder Hack-Einsätze geeignet ist, sondern auch noch Feuer machen kann - ein Must-Have für jeden Suvivalist.
