The hard ballistic protection plate S-LW-ICW+ is the lightest plate from Protection Group Danmark (PGD) at only 850 g and offers protection class Level III+ ICW. ICW (in conjunction with) means that the full protective effect is only achieved in combination with an appropriate soft ballistic vest (NIJ IIIa). This is made possible by a core of high-performance polyethylene that is pressed under extreme pressure. This results in the thinnest and lightest hard armor plate available from PGD.
Unlike many other protection plates, PGD's protective effect extends to the edge of the plate, and the thin foam covering adds hardly any bulk, ensuring safety at the highest level.
The entire plate is also covered by a completely new "heat-sealed" waterproof cover that repels water, oil, and other liquids without compromising the ballistic properties.
The ESAPI cut design allows free movement of the arms, and the 3D "multicurved" shape fits particularly well to the body, as it is specifically shaped for the chest and abdomen. The SAPI design also ensures that the protective effect remains consistently high under extreme conditions (very hot or very cold).
Conclusion: This high-performance protection plate offers Level III+ protection in combination with a suitable soft ballistic vest at an extremely low weight. Additionally, it provides high wearing comfort thanks to the ESAPI design and multicurved shape.
In conjunction with the soft ballistic insert for plate carriers, this protection plate can also be used without a separate protective vest!

Material science – Protection plates hard ballistic The most important criterion when selecting a ballistic protection plate is the so-called protection class: The USA has developed a corresponding standard that all countries and manufacturers significantly refer to: NIJ Standard-0101.06 (external link)
Here is a list of the most important type classes as well as the corresponding protective effect / caliber strength:
- Type IIA - 9x19, .40 S&W, .45ACP – all FMJ
- Type II - 9mm +P FMJ, .357 Magnum SJSP
- Type IIIA - .357 SIG FMJFN, .44 Magnum SJHP
- Type III - 7.62x51 NATO M80 ball FMJ

Plates marked with "ICW" (short for in conjunction with) require soft ballistic (soft armor) as a base to achieve their full protective effect. Such plates are usually lighter and thinner than "stand alone" plates, which achieve their full protective effect without soft ballistic.
The hard ballistic protection plates ("hard armor") are available in 3 materials:
- PE, polyethylene: very light, inexpensive, protection class up to Type III possible (PDG-LW)
- Al²O³, aluminum oxide ceramic: inexpensive, protection class up to Type IV possible (PDG-Berserker)
- SiC, silicon carbide – light, protection class up to Type IV possible (PDG U-Line)
PGD protection plates are also available in two different shapes:
- Both variants are characterized by angled cuts at the corners, so the plates do not restrict arm movement.
- "single curved": simple, horizontal curvature
- "multi curved": double, horizontal and vertical curvature
- side plates are always "single curved"

Die Hartballistik-Schutzplatte S-LW-ICW+ ist mit nur 850 g die leichteste Platte der Protection Group Danmark (PGD) und bietet dabei Schutzklasse Level III+ ICW. ICW (in conjunction with) bedeutet, dass sich die volle Schutzwirkung nur in Kombination mit einer entsprechenden Weichballistik-Weste (NIJ IIIa) entfaltet. Möglich macht das ein Kern aus Hochleistungs-Polyethylen welches unter extremem Druck gepresst wird. So entsteht die bisher dünnste und leichteste Hartpanzerplatte die es von PGD gibt.
Anders als bei vielen anderen Schutzplatten geht bei PGD die Schutzwirkung bis zum Rand der Platte, die dünne Schaumummantelung trägt kaum auf, für Sicherheit auf höchstem Niveau.
Die gesamte Platte wird außerdem von einem völlig neuen „hitzeversiegelten“ wasserfesten Bezug ummantelt, welche Wasser, Öl und andere Flüssigkeiten abweist, ohne die ballistischen Eigenschaften zu beeinträchtigen.
Das ESAPI-Schnittdesign ermöglicht freie Bewegung an den Armen, durch die 3D Form "multicurved" liegt die Platte besonders gut am Körper, da sie speziell für Brust und Bauch geformt wurde. Das SAPI Design sorgt auch dafür, dass die Schutzwirkung unter extremen Umgebungen (sehr heiß oder sehr kalt) gleichbleibend hoch ist.
Fazit: Diese Hochleistungsschutzplatte bietet in Kombination mit einer passenden Weichballistik-Weste Level III+ Schutz bei extrem geringem Gewicht. Dazu kommt hoher Tragekomfort dank ESAPI Design und multicurved Form.
In Verbindung mit der weichballistischen Einlage für Plattenträger kann diese Schutzplatte auch ohne separate Schutzweste eingesetzt werden!

Platten die mit „ICW“ (kurz für in conjunction with) gekennzeichnet sind, benötigen Weichballistik (soft armor) als Unterbau um ihre volle Schutzwirkung zu entfalten. Solche Platten sind meist leichter und dünner als „stand alone“ Platten, welche ohne Weichballistik ihre volle Schutzwirkung entfalten.
Die Hartballistik-Schutzplatten („hard armor“) stehen in 3 Materialien zur Verfügung:

PGD Schutzplatten gibt es dann noch in zwei unterschiedlichen Formen:
Beide Varianten sind zeichnen sich durch schrägen Schnitt der Ecken aus, so schränken die Platten die Armbeweglichkeit nicht ein.

Einige Anwender bevorzugen für die Multicurved für die Frontpartie - die Auswahl bleibt aber letztendlich immer dem Anwender überlassen. Die Front-/Rück-Platten mit einer Größe von 25 x 30 cm (10“ x 12“) sind für die Verwendung in den meisten Plattenträger-Systemen und Westen geeignet.
