The strain screw on the S&W revolver controls the tension of the main spring, which drives the hammer; thus it directly influences the trigger weight and the force of the firing pin to ensure the ignition of the cartridge by either tightening the main spring more (heavier trigger, firmer strike) or less (lighter trigger, lighter strike). It is located at the front of the grip frame under the grip panels.

On the model 17-2 (1961), the trigger guard screw was removed and the cylinder stop was replaced.

Die Strain Screw (Spannschraube) am S&W Revolver steuert die Spannung der Hauptfeder (Main Spring), die den Hahn antreibt; dadurch beeinflusst sie direkt das Abzugsgewicht und die Kraft des Schlagbolzens, um das Zünden der Patrone sicherzustellen, indem sie die Hauptfeder entweder stärker (schwererer Abzug, festerer Schlag) oder leichter (leichterer Abzug, leichterer Schlag) spannt. Sie befindet sich an der Vorderseite des Griffrahmens unter den Griffschalen.

Bei dem Modell 17-2 (1961) wurde die Abzugsbügelschraube entfernt und der Trommelanschlag ausgetauscht.
