For those who prefer a sturdy feel: Waxcotton jacket "Regensegen" made of waxed cotton
The STEINKAUZ wax jacket "Regensegen" is a stylish and material-wise perfect complement to our loden jackets, hoodies, and our gear. Where the bad weather properties of loden reach their limits, waxed cotton provides the necessary outer layer to keep rain largely out and maintain a good climate inside. With lighter clothing, the material has a cooling effect. However, with a layer of loden or a warm wool sweater underneath, it retains heat very well inside. The surface of the wax cotton changes quite quickly with use and soon acquires a beautiful vintage effect. If the waxing diminishes over time, the jacket can be rewaxed as often as desired.
Unfortunately, we can't do ultralight, but we can do heavy-duty!
The rather heavy 8-Oz Waxcotton is not a thin layer, but rather a solid protective layer that also performs well as a windbreaker. The material is made from 100% cotton, which gives it a particularly high absorption capacity for the wax used for impregnation, which holds particularly well in the natural fiber cotton. This gives the fabric its good precipitation properties and its heavy, rustic quality. This original weatherproof fabric is not for lovers of ultralight gear, but rather for fans of robust equipment.
The little details you learn to appreciate
The interior of the “Regensegen” is lined with a thin pocket lining made of polycotton, so that the waxed outer fabric does not come into direct contact with the rest of the clothing. The hood can be adjusted to the shape of the head with an internal drawstring over two axes and can be worn loosely or snugly.
Four outer pockets, two on the chest and two with side access in the hip area, are all equipped with zippers and additionally feature a flap made of wax cotton that is designed to make it more difficult for raindrops to penetrate. Inside, there is also an additional inner pocket with a zipper and side access on each side in the chest area.
The main zipper is made of blued metal and is equipped with two flaps that help to block wind and rain above and below the zipper.
Wind cuffs are built into the inner sleeve cuffs and the hem of the body. These are fabric cuffs that can be tightened with a drawstring to prevent cold wind from entering, thus providing additional protection for the jacket in sensitive areas. Furthermore, the sleeve cuffs can also be tightened with an external Velcro strap.
