The 8x57 JRS is a top-class cartridge for combination guns, especially double-barreled rifles. It allows for a very fast rate of fire in double rifles, as the barrel is only minimally pushed out of the target when fired. Since there was already an 8x57 JR, it was a logical step to create a cartridge with a rim for break-action guns alongside the stronger 8-mm bullets of the 8x57 JS. The 8x57 JRS is therefore the sister cartridge of the rimless 8x57 JS. It was also introduced in 1905.
