Many ninja swords available on the market have a straight blade, which can likely be attributed to Hollywood film producers. The John Lee Ninjato, on the other hand, is based on historical traditions. As long as it is in the scabbard, it is indistinguishable from a normal katana. Only when drawn does the shortened blade reveal itself, giving the ninja a crucial speed advantage.

The Iaido Sport
The Iaido sport deals with the art of drawing the sword and predetermined attack techniques (katas), but as a formal practice. Typically, the Iaito, an unsharpened practice sword, is used. The development of the unity of body, mind, and sword (Ki-Ken-Tai-Ichi) is the focus. The highest master rank is said to be achieved when one masters any combat situation without even drawing the sword. The blunt blades are made of hardened, stainless 420 steel. This allows for a realistic training feel while also providing a low-maintenance blade.
