Die .222 Rem. ist sehr beliebt als Allroundpatrone für die Jagd und das sportliche Schießen. Sie wird sowohl zum Benchrestschießen als auch zur Jagd auf schwächeres Wild verwendet. Bei der Jagd ist die Patrone sehr gut für Rehwild und Fuchs geeignet, wobei Rehwild bis 200 m sicher erlegt werden kann. Außerdem ist die Patrone sowohl für den Ansitzhasen als auch für den Auerhahn und Birkhahn einsetzbar, weil das kleine Kaliber besonders wildbretschonend ist.
