The 7x57 is well suited for distances up to 200 m for medium to rather weaker red and black game. It is also very popular as a roe deer cartridge, as it guarantees very good game meat preservation. Die 7x57 eignet sich gut für Entfernungen bis zu 200 m auf mittelstarkes bis hin zu eher schwächerem Rot- und Schwarzwild. Sie ist auch als Rehwildpatrone sehr beliebt, da sie eine sehr gute Wildbretschonung garantiert. Obwohl der berühmte Berufsjäger "Karamoja Bell" unter wohl idealen Bedingungen damit eine große Anzahl von Elefanten erlegt hat, ist sie nach heutigen Maßstäben weder eine Großwildpatrone, noch eine Patrone für schweres, starkes Wild. Die 7x57 wurde von Mauser 1892 eingeführt. Ursprünglich war sie eine Militärpatrone, die schnell auch als Jagdpatrone große Beliebtheit erlangt hat.
