The 8x57 JS is a top-class cartridge for distances of up to around 180 m. It is ideal for hunting in the forest and as a driven hunt cartridge. Furthermore, it is a top-class big game cartridge for Central European game. It is also very commonly used there as a universal cartridge. With it, one generally has less hematoma formation compared to fast, weaker calibers. The 8x57 JS was developed from the old military cartridge 8x57 I by increasing the bullet diameter from .318" to .323" (8.08 / 8.20 mm) and received an S in its designation. It was introduced in 1905 and quickly gained favor among hunters. Die 8x57 JS ist eine erstklassige Patrone für Entfernungen bis zu rund 180 m. Ideal ist sie für die Jagd im Wald und als Drückjagd-Patrone. Außerdem ist sie eine erstklassige Hochwild-Patrone für mitteleuropäisches Wild. Sie wird dort auch sehr gerne als universelle Patrone eingesetzt. Mit ihr hat man in der Regel geringere Hämatombildung zu verzeichnen als mit rasanten, schwächeren Kalibern. Die 8x57 JS wurde aus der alten Militärpatrone 8x57 I durch Vergrößerung des Geschossdurchmessers von .318" auf .323" (8,08 / 8,20 mm) entwickelt und erhielt ein S in der Bezeichnung.
