The 8x57 IRS is a top-class cartridge for drilling rifles. Since there was already an 8x57 IR, it was the logical step to create a cartridge with a rim for break-action firearms alongside the 8x57 IS with the stronger 8 mm bullets; consequently, the 8x57 IRS is the sister cartridge of the rimless 8x57 IS - both were introduced in 1905. GECO offers three loadings with the 12.0 g GECO partial jacket bullet, the 12.7 g heavy GECO Plus, and the lead-free GECO ZERO with 9.0 g. Die 8x57 IRS ist eine erstklassige Patrone für Drillinge. Da es schon eine 8x57 IR gab, war es der logische Schritt, neben der 8x57 IS mit den stärkeren 8 mm Geschossen auch eine Patrone mit Rand für Kipplaufwaffen zu schaffen, folglich ist die 8x57 IRS die Schwesterpatrone der randlosen 8x57 IS - beide wurden 1905 eingeführt.
