The Bola is a throwing weapon used by the Inuit (Siberian indigenous people) as well as by South Americans. It is used as a hunting weapon or by cattle herders to catch runaway cattle.
The Bola consists of two or three cords, each 0.4 to 1.5 m long, which are tied together at one end to form a star. At the outer end of each cord, there is a weight (stone, leather pouch with stones, or lead shot). The stones are connected to the cords through shaped leather pouches (usually parchment or connected by leather straps).
Usage with three balls: One end of the Bola is held in the hand, and the other two ends are whirled above the head and thrown at the legs of the animal to be caught, causing the animal – along with any rider that may be on it – to stumble and fall. The rotating Bola wraps around the legs of the animal. Accurate throwing requires practice, as the animal to be caught usually moves quickly.

Als Bola bezeichnet man eine Wurfwaffe der Inuit (sibirische Ureinwohner) sowie der Südamerikaner. Sie wird als Jagdwaffe oder auch von Rinderhirten zum Fangen von entlaufenen Rindern verwendet.
Die Bola besteht aus zwei oder drei Leinen mit einer Länge von je 0,4 bis 1,5 m, die jeweils an einem Ende zu einem Stern zusammengeknotet sind. Am jeweils äußeren Ende jeder Leine befindet sich ein Gewicht (Stein, Lederbeutel mit Steinen oder Bleischrot). Die Steine werden mit den Leinen durch geformte Lederbeutel (meist Pergament oder durch Lederriemen verbunden.
Einsatz bei drei Kugeln: Ein Ende der Bola wird in der Hand gehalten und die beiden anderen Enden über dem Kopf gewirbelt und dem zu fangenden Tier in die Beine geworfen, was zum Stolpern und Fallen des Tieres – samt eines gegebenenfalls aufsitzenden Reiters – führt. Die rotierende Bola wickelt sich dabei um die Beine des Tieres. Der zielgenaue Wurf bedarf der Übung, da das zu fangende Tier sich in der Regel schnell bewegt.
