The effective range of the cartridge, which can be equipped with RWS bullets from 9.7 g to 13.0 g, extends up to about 300 m. The cartridge was developed in 1903 and received its final dimensions in 1906, the year it was also introduced as a standard cartridge in the USA ("Ball Cartridge, Caliber .30, Model of 1906").
