The specially designed over-and-under shotgun 694 for clay pigeon shooting was developed and tested in collaboration with the internationally successful Beretta shooting team and pursues a clear goal: to help the shooter hit that one decisive clay target more often. Thanks to careful and intensive development and construction, the 694 is a perfectly balanced over-and-under shotgun with optimized mechanical, ergonomic, and dynamic properties.
The 694 can be brought into perfect contact with the target, allowing for a swinging motion with maximum control and a precise shot release exactly at the right moment. The new shape of the action and stock allows for improved visual perception of the processes during the stance, swing, and shot. The new forend attachment guarantees a permanently play-free and adjustable hinge action, and the Steelium Plus barrels ensure the best coverage and "solid" hits with soft lead and steel shot. The distinctive lines of the action give the 694 a unique and particularly dynamic "look" in contemporary design.
The ergonomics of the stock have been carefully revised to provide the ideal configuration for each discipline. New is the design of the stock in relation to the action; the progressive curve of the profile allows the shooter even better peripheral perception with reduced obstruction of the field of view. This enables an even stronger focus on the target, making it easier to center the visual target image and allowing for precise control of the weapon and a precise shot release.
Furthermore, this change reduces the disadvantageous and erroneous tendency of some shooters to lift their heads after the shot to check their hit placement.
In the sporting version, the stock has been completely redesigned and equipped with a steeper grip angle, increased grip volume, and a wider radius of the stock back. This ensures maximum shooting comfort with reduced muzzle rise during the shot and an extremely natural and stable hand position. In the sporting version, the standard drop is 35/50 mm, and the sporting stock with B-Fast stock adjustment has a base drop of 35/55 mm.
The shotguns are equipped with a forend suitable for all hand sizes and gripping habits in a round design. Upon request, the shotguns can also be equipped with a beavertail or schnabel forend.
The fine checkering with 1.5 mm diamond spacing has an enlarged surface for better grip. The selected walnut wood with attractive grain is protected with a finish of natural oil with high water resistance.
The new forend attachment has a separate steel joint, which is responsible for the consistent and permanent pressure of the forend against the action radius. The improved geometry and the adjustable pressure forces made possible by Beretta service allow for a consistently stable opening resistance over many years without premature "rattling." The attachment system of the forend has also been revised and consists of a mechanism at the front end that is separate from the steel joint; the opening slider is self-regulating, thus also extending the usual maintenance intervals. The metal surface in the palm has been reduced and has a significantly lower heat transfer at high temperatures and shot counts.
The newly designed action made of steel appears modern and sporty, with the raised side surfaces featuring dynamic lines and the elaborately polished angled surfaces providing a high recognition value. The blue inlaid lines and the model type 694 further enhance this impression. The underside of the action is discreet yet confident, featuring the famous Beretta trident logo with three arrows and the inscription 694, also in blue inlay, while the Nistain finish of the surface gives it the typical matte gray color.
The weight of the action has been increased by about 25 g, which further improves stability and balance. The Beretta-typical side lock with enlarged lateral hinge pins, embedded side pieces, and the Beretta locking mechanism with conical, self-regulating locking bolts that lock into the side pieces ensures an extremely smooth shot release with particularly low tipping moment and gentle shooting behavior with reduced muzzle rise.
The trigger system features an adjustable trigger blade that can be locked in three positions and allows for adaptation to different hand sizes and finger lengths.
The steel closing lever has a new profile, features ergonomic lines, and is easy to operate even for left-handed users; the matte anti-reflective coating prevents disturbances during target acquisition.
Steelium barrel technology – Beretta has particularly high expertise in barrel manufacturing; both the production process and the exclusive barrel steel alloy made for Beretta are unique worldwide. A precise deep drilling with additional fine grinding, the material-densifying cold hammering, and the final vacuum stress relief give the steel the highest possible stability and ideal mechanical properties to achieve excellent ballistic performance. The Steelium Plus barrel profile used in the 694 features a three-stage progressively tapered transition cone from the chamber to the cylindrical part of the barrel, which can be up to 300 mm long depending on the barrel length.
