Der Mauser 98 ist ein klassischer Repetierer, der auf dem 1898 von Paul Mauser entwickelten System basiert. Dieses Verschlusssystem gilt bis heute als eines der robustesten und sichersten Jagd- und Militärsysteme überhaupt. Es zeichnet sich durch einen starken Zylinderverschluss, zwei vordere Verriegelungswarzen sowie eine zusätzliche Sicherheitsverriegelung am hinteren Ende des Verschlusses aus. Die große, kontrollierte Zuführung (Controlled Round Feed) sorgt für eine sehr zuverlässige Patronenzufuhr – ein Merkmal, das besonders bei jagdlicher Nutzung geschätzt wird.
