Already in the 15th and 16th centuries, the Swiss dagger was used as a common weapon by Swiss pikemen and often took a middle position between dagger and sword due to its blade length. The dagger, also known as Baselard, usually served as a secondary weapon and was generally not issued as part of the equipment but had to be privately acquired by the soldiers. Following the extraordinary torsion damask, we now have the also very elaborately crafted mosaic damask, which is equally considered to be in the royal class of damask forging and makes the impressive dagger an absolute highlight in any knife collection. Unlike conventional damask, no layers are produced in the manufacture of mosaic damask; instead, complex damask bars are hand-forged into a mosaic in a labor-intensive and very complicated process. For this, the initially layered damask package is divided and then reassembled in a staggered manner, so that a unique mosaic pattern emerges on the end faces of the bar. Subsequently, the damask is divided again, and the complex process is repeated several times, with the resulting pattern becoming finer and more unique at each step. The individual packages are finally stacked and forged in the shape of a square, so that the end faces of the individual parts form a new surface. Here, the forging temperature, deformation, deformation rate, and the previous work steps must be optimally coordinated. This highly demanding forging process, which only a few damask smiths master, is executed to perfection for our Swiss dagger by Chad Nichols. The double-edged and tapering dagger blade already had a cross-section in the shape of a diamond in historical models, as this construction proved to be extremely stable and effective. Characteristic of the Swiss dagger is the design of the handguard and pommel. The extraordinary, curved shaping can be traced back to the early 13th century and can also be found in the authentic shaping of the new edition handcrafted by us. The shimmering dark handle made of hand-selected, certified imported ebony is framed by the high-gloss polished pommel and handguard, forming a perfect unit with the stainless steel blade. The specially designed and hand-stitched, decorated leather sheath for this model emphasizes the exclusivity of the coveted collector's piece. Bereits im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert wurde der Schweizer Dolch als gngige Waffe der Schweizer Pikeniere eingesetzt und nahm aufgrund seiner Klingenlnge oftmals eine Mittelstellung zwischen Dolch und Schwert ein. Der auch als Baselard bekannte Dolch diente meist als Sekundrwaffe und wurde fr gewhnlich nicht als Ausrstungsgegenstand ausgegeben, sondern musste privat von den Soldaten beschafft werden. Auf den auergewhnlichen Torsionsdamast folgt nun der ebenfalls sehr aufwendig zu fertigende Mosaikdamast, der genauso zur Knigsklasse des Damastschmiedens zhlt und den beeindruckenden Dolch zu einem absoluten Glanzstck in jeder Messersammlung macht. Anders als bei herkmmlichem Damast werden bei der Herstellung von Mosaikdamast keine Lagen erzeugt, sondern komplexe Damastbarren in einem aufwendigen und sehr komplizierten Prozess von Hand zu einem Mosaik verschmiedet. Dafr wird das anfnglich aus bereinander geschichteten Lagen bestehende Damastpaket zerteilt und versetzt wieder zusammengefgt, sodass an den Stirnseiten des Barrens ein einzigartiges Mosaikmuster entsteht. Anschlieend wird der Damast erneut zerteilt und der komplexe Vorgang mehrmals wiederholt, wobei das entstandene Muster bei jedem Schritt feiner und einzigartiger wird. Die einzelnen Pakete werden schlielich in Form eines Vierkants gestapelt und verschmiedet, sodass die Stirnseiten der einzelnen Teile eine neue Flche bilden. Dabei mssen Schmiedetemperatur, Verformung, Deformationsrate und die vorherigen Arbeitsschritte optimal aufeinander abgestimmt werden. Dieser beraus anspruchsvolle Schmiedeprozess, den nur wenige Damastschmiede beherrschen, wird fr unseren Schweizer Dolch von Chad Nichols in Perfektion ausgefhrt. Die beidseitig geschrfte und spitz zulaufende Dolchklinge wies schon bei historischen Modellen einen Querschnitt in Form eines Diamanten auf, denn diese Konstruktion erwies sich als uerst stabil und effektiv. Charakteristisch fr den Schweizer Dolch ist die Gestaltung von Handschutz und Abschlussknauf. Die auergewhnliche, gekrmmte Formgebung kann bis in das frhe 13. Jahrhundert zurckverfolgt werden und lsst sich auch in der authentischen Formgebung der von uns in Handarbeit gefertigten Neuauflage wiederfinden. Der schimmernde dunkle Griff aus handverlesenem, zertifiziert importiertem Ebenholz wird vom hochglanzpolierten Abschlussknauf und dem Handschutz eingefasst und bildet eine perfekte Einheit mit der rostfreien Klinge. Die speziell fr dieses Modell entworfene und von Hand genhte, verzierte Lederscheide unterstreicht die Exklusivitt des begehrten Sammlerstcks. Die Auslieferung erfolgt mit individueller Seriennummer in einer edlen Holzschatulle und mit Echtheitszertifikat. Handgefertigt in der Bker Messer-Manufaktur Solingen.
