Our hunting ground in November

Gunfinder Magazine

Our roe deer are winding down their metabolism and shooting for the hunting year is already done at best. Unshod does have an opportunity to reproduce in November through the post-rut, while buck fawns are already wearing their first set of horns. In the field, depending on vegetation and deer density, large jumps are found with often more than twenty deer regardless of age and sex. In the forest, on the other hand, there are often only three to four-headed does.

The red deer are also finally calming down, and the stags in particular are becoming more compatible. The fights from the rut are forgotten and it goes into the winter quarters. In places where there are regular times of need, the feeders are prepared and stocked. A sense of proportion and expertise are required to prevent disease and damage. The respective state hunting laws must be observed.

Those who have sows in the field are happy to have just completed damage control and are already back to protecting the seed of freshly tilled fields. In the absence of acorn mast, sows now like to move to the fields for gleaning. However, those who hunt in the woods will now increase hunting pressure significantly in order to make a kill. Kirrungen are hardly accepted with naturally occurring beechnuts and acorns, but those who know these mast areas will have the best chance now.

It's not long now until the fox's rut. The brats have matured by now and a stalk at the mating ground is worthwhile, because later after the mating season the brats are often not as handsome as they are in November. Whether with shot or the small suitable ball, plays for the Niederwildheger no role. For the protection of the species, he uses every opportunity that presents itself to give the redcoat a run for its money.

There, where still numerous pheasant and hare are at home, is hunted not only on Hubertustag together. The pointing dogs can show there just like on the duck hunt, which is in them.

In many places the hunt for the wood pigeon begins now. Under oak trees and on harvested corn fields offer good possibilities for it. A prerequisite besides good camouflage is a previous visit to the clay pigeon stand. Decoys on bare trees are a magnet as well as grain remains on the fields. In the morning it is more promising in the field than in the afternoon. In the evening it is the roosting trees that attract the pigeons.

The number of wild geese has increased significantly in recent years. This is accompanied by increasing problems such as feeding damage and excrement on agricultural land. Tricking a goose is not always easy. With the right decoy, however, it is an exciting shotgun hunt and, if successful, a delicious addition to the dinner table. November offers great opportunities.
