The HORNADY GMX cartridge is a widely used lead-free hunting cartridge in Germany.
GMX stands for "Gilding Metal eXpanding", which translates to "expanding metal alloy". It is a hollow point bullet with a polymer tip, made from a copper-zinc alloy (95% copper & 5% zinc). This alloy is harder than ordinary solid copper projectiles. The tough alloy material routinely retains 95% or more of its original weight and expands to 1.5 times its original diameter - thus the ammunition reliably delivers exit wounds.
Even at shooting distances of over 200 meters, the bullet maintains its deforming effect - there is no "full metal jacket effect".
Numerous hunters are convinced of the high precision and reliable performance of the HORNADY GMX. Unlike other lead-free ammunition, this cartridge is said to produce relatively few bruises and cause comparatively little game meat destruction due to the absence of fragments.
Price-wise, the HORNADY GMX is in the mid-range and is available in all common calibers.
