Once the safety cap is removed, the ring is sharply pulled to the side, and after a short delay, dense smoke begins to escape immediately.
Our WP0 smoke grenades are not only suitable for use in airsoft and paintball, but they are also a very good choice for fire training exercises as well as film and television shoots.According to the new European regulation, our smoke grenades are classified as P1 pyrotechnics, which allows use by individuals without special training.
It is prohibited to misuse our smoke grenades at football matches or similar events. This can result in severe penalties!WP0 smoke grenades are cool/cold burning and can therefore be used safely without fire risk.
The term "cool burn" refers to the fact that no external flame is produced and that the temperature of the cartridge is lower than that of common military and marine smoke devices (which become very hot), thus significantly reducing the risk of fire. However, it is possible to ignite a fire with the smoke grenades if they are thrown indiscriminately into very flammable materials.
Conventional smoke grenades that produce smoke from a wire/ring pull, friction safety, or similar ignition generate smoke from a formula that burns without air oxygen. Once ignited, they are difficult to stop until all contents are burned. For this reason, the grenade casing becomes warm, and the smoke within 50cm of the grenade is hot and could cause burns. Our smoke devices produce little spark at ignition, but without flame, and are thus practically fireproof after the first activation of the grenade; they are considered "cool burn" according to the definition mentioned above.
While producing smoke, our grenades do generate heat, but efforts have been made to keep this as low as possible. Thus, it is possible to hold the smoke device in hand during burning, despite heat generation. However, this should not be done without appropriate gloves.Temperature Information
The outer temperature of the smoke device can reach up to 88° Celsius, but this only occurs after the grenade has completely burned out. During the burning process, the average temperature of the smoke device is about 40° Celsius.
The maximum temperature measured at the outlet of the smoke device is approximately 130° Celsius
Fire Hazard
The manufacturer has conducted various tests with the grenades to assess their fire hazard.
Five different materials considered easily flammable were tested in 2 scenarios. Pre-dried material was used for the tests!Test Scenario 1: A WP0 smoke device was ignited and placed on the dried material and allowed to burn completely.
Test Scenario 2: A WP0 smoke device was ignited and placed on the dried material. Then, the same material was placed on the burning grenade, and the smoke device was allowed to burn completely.
Straw
Scenario 1: The straw visibly dried out and turned black, but no fire occurred
Scenario 2: After about 1 minute, the straw lying on the smoke device began to burn
Pine Needles, Pine Cones, and Twigs
Scenario 1: The material turned black in a small area, but no fire occurred
Scenario 2: After the grenade had burned out, only the pine needles smoldered slightly.Dried Leaves
Scenario 1: The leaves turned black in a small area, but no fire broke out
Scenario 2: The piled leaves caught fire after 22 seconds
Dried Ferns and Stems
Scenario 1: The material turned black in a small area, but no fire broke out
Scenario 2: After about 40 seconds, the piled material began to burnShredded Office Paper
Scenario 1: The paper charred to ash, but no fire occurred
Scenario 2: Since a fire outbreak was expected, this was not tested
Summary
In all scenarios, except for the shredded office paper, only charring or further drying of the material was observed when the smoke device landed on the test materials. In all cases where the smoke device was covered by dried material, it began to burn.
The reason for the different behavior can be explained by the insulating effect of the materials. When the smoke devices are completely covered - or at least the nozzle/smoke outlet of the grenade, this allows for a localized increase in temperature above the flash point of the test material and can thus cause a fire.If the smoke grenade merely lands on the material, less heat buildup is expected, making ignition of the material less likely, which is why no ignition was observed in the experiments conducted by the manufacturer.
It should be noted that, although no ignition was observed in these experiments, the results cannot be considered entirely conclusive and cannot ensure that ignition cannot occur under similar conditions.Pyrotechnic smoke devices always generate heat and can cause fires.
Our recommendation is therefore to carefully choose the place of use and keep a fire extinguisher ready!
