There was great anticipation for what the gunsmiths from J.P. Sauer & Sohn would present after ten years as the successor to their successful model Sauer 404. The Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle features a solid steel housing, which weighs only 732 g due to perfect skeletonization during milling. Combined with the ergonomic stock and cold-hammered barrel, you receive a hunting rifle with the proven Sauer precision since 1751.
Stock
The stock of this version of the Sauer 505 is the polymer hole stock Synchro XT Black. Its ergonomic design, which brings elegance and dynamism into a symbiosis, immediately catches the eye. You can adjust the stock comb to your personal physical needs when aiming and shooting using the height-adjustable stock butt. The stock length is 36.5 cm. Polymer is a lightweight and extremely durable material, allowing you to use your Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black regularly in adverse weather conditions without damaging the material. With the Synchro XT Black stock, your Sauer 505 is literally an all-weather rifle.
The system: Steel housing and bolt
The heart of the Sauer 505 is its system with an extremely smooth one-piece bolt, which is housed in a solid steel casing. The bolt is also made of steel, longer than in the predecessor model, and made from a single piece. This allows for quieter cycling due to reduced friction losses and a smooth chambering. Since you likely chose a rifle of this type also for the feel of the movement during cycling, you will experience great pleasure with the Sauer 505.
The manual safety
The manual safety, which already distinguished the Sauer 404, has been further developed. It is now even easier to operate and makes your Sauer 505 even safer. With a light thumb pressure, the system can be cocked immediately before the shot, and it is just as easy to release to unload in a relaxed state.
Trigger
“The trigger, however, is the real showstopper,” writes Wolfram Osgyan in his test report (Wild und Hund, Issue 3/2024, p. 51), “free of creep, without dragging or sticking.” The Quattro trigger with four weight settings ensures that the trigger is dry and you have the precisely suitable trigger weight. You can individually adjust the triggers as needed to 350, 750, 1,000, and 1,250 g. The adjustment is easily done with the front stock removed using the “Sauer Universal Key” (SUS), which can be optionally placed in the front stock; the “Sauer Mini Universal Key” (MUS) is included as standard.
The barrel
The barrel of the Sauer 505 is cold-hammered, allowing for highly precise shots. The muzzle diameter is 17 mm, and the muzzle is equipped with an M15x1 thread for a suppressor. The standard barrels have a smooth contour; upon request, you can also use a fluted barrel. Fluting increases the barrel surface area, allowing heat to dissipate better during rapid fire sequences, preventing mirage from disturbing your aim. It also reduces the weight of the barrel. The standard lengths of the barrels are 51 cm and 62 cm. Upon request, 56 cm barrels are also available for the Mini, Medium, and Magnum caliber groups. The barrels of the Sauer 505 and their other steel surfaces are effectively protected against corrosion through plasma nitriding; optionally, you can receive a DLC surface (Diamond Like Carbon) for an additional charge. In this version with the Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black polymer hole stock and a 51 cm barrel, the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is 101.5 cm long and weighs approximately 3.5 kg.
The stocks and barrels are, by the way, compatible with the Sauer 404, so you can use those from your 404 or bring your old rifle back into service with the new stock and barrel as a second or reserve rifle.
Magazine
The magazine is made of polymer, like the Sauer 505 Synchro XT Black stock, making it lighter than its metal predecessor. The magazines are each designed for the selected calibers and hold 2 to 5 cartridges. The integrated magazine safety MagLock prevents accidental release of the magazine button.

Die Sauer S505 Synchro XT Black mit einer kompakten Lauflänge von 510 mm setzt neue Maßstäbe im Premium-Segment der Repetierbüchsen. Als konsequente Weiterentwicklung verbindet sie absolute mechanische Perfektion mit kompromissloser Ergonomie. Das Herzstück der Waffe bildet das massive Stahlgehäuse aus hochfestem 16MnCr5-Stahl, das in Kombination mit dem einteiligen, optimierten Verschluss für einen legendär seidenweichen Kammergang sorgt, der im dynamischen Jagdbetrieb seinesgleichen sucht.
Ausgestattet mit dem hochentwickelten Synchro XT Lochschaft aus robustem, schwarzem Poly-Black-Material (ErgoMax Schaftform), garantiert diese Büchse eine vollkommen entspannte Handhaltung und einen absolut wiederholgenauen Anschlag. Um extremen Witterungseinflüssen mühelos zu trotzen, sind alle relevanten Metalloberflächen aufwendig plasmanitriert. Ein weiteres cleveres Feature ist das integrierte MagLock-System, das ein unbeabsichtigtes Verlieren des Polymer-Magazins im dichten Unterholz zuverlässig verhindert.
Quattro Trigger und optimierte Handspannung
Für maximale Präzision in jeder Jagdsituation sorgt der Sauer Quattro Trigger. Dieser innovative Direktabzug lässt sich in vier Stufen individuell auf das gewünschte Abzugsgewicht einstellen (350 g, 750 g, 1000 g und 1250 g), ohne dass die Waffe dafür zerlegt werden muss. Gepaart mit der neu optimierten, ergonomischen Handspannung auf dem Schlösschen bietet die S505 ein Höchstmaß an aktiver Sicherheit und intuitiver Bedienbarkeit unmittelbar vor dem Schuss.
