La versione calibro 44 di Dixie Gun Works del revolver Dance è prodotta in Italia da F.lli Pietta e riproduce da vicino lo styling distintivo delle famose pistole dei Confederati realizzate in Texas. Pietta realizza quello che altrimenti sarebbe un revolver privo di decorazioni in una fantastica riproduzione con castello con colori tartarugati, leva di caricamento, cane e grilletto, e una resa soddisfacente dell’imbrunita d’epoca per quanto riguarda canna e tamburo.
Il castello è in ottone, come gli originali. Con un peso di 2 libbre e 9.5 once il Dance di casa Pietta rientra di mezza oncia rispetto al 1851 Navy che ha una canna completamente ottagonale di 7-1/2 pollici. Dance usa una ghiera ottagonale e una canna rotonda con una lunghezza complessiva di 8 pollici, esattamente come i modelli 1863 J.H. Dance. Colt usava un mirino frontale con punta in ottone sul 1851, mentre Dance metteva a disposizione dei soldati Confederati un mirino frontale con lama in ottone facilmente individuabile, simile al design usato sulle Colt 1860 Army.
I tamburi delle Colt Navy calibro 36, caratterizzati da incisioni realizzate da W. L. Ormsby della vittoria della Marina del Texas sulla Marina messicana nel 1843, erano lunghi 1-11/16 pollici, mentre i Dance, che potevano essere di calibro 36 o 44, disponevano di un tamburo del tutto privo di decorazioni e leggermente più lungo. Le impugnature sul Dance erano un pezzo unico in legno di noce oliato con fascette più lunghe e incurvate del Colt Navy e si adattavano alla mano in modo più dolce ma erano acquistate meno rispetto al modello 1860 Army.
Pietta ha fatto un lavoro eccezionale nel riprodurre il revolver fin nei minimi dettagli Dance. Per un raffronto visivo, le due armi possono essere viste a pagina 266 del libro Firearms of the Confederacy di Claude E. Fuller e Richard D. Steuart.
