The polished brass parabolic reflector turns the omnidirectional light of a Petromax HK250, HK350, or HK500 into a targeted light source. Its curved surface focuses light forward like a spotlight while simultaneously shielding the opposite side. It is mounted with two mounting arms next to the knurled nuts and cannot be installed together with a Petromax top reflector.

glare protection on the side opposite the light beam
mounting via two side mounting arms
polished brass matching classic brass lamps

What does the parabolic reflector change about the light?
A Petromax high-intensity lamp basically distributes its light all around the lamp glass. This is useful when an area needs to be illuminated all around, but it causes some of the light to fall in unused directions or people to look directly into the bright lamp image.
The side-mounted parabolic reflector changes this distribution. Its curved surface directs a large part of the light hitting from behind forward and, according to Petromax, creates a spotlight-like beam. At the same time, a glare shield is created behind the reflector. The lamp does not produce more light output; the existing light is used more purposefully.

Product classification: Class: mountable accessory for horizontal light control. Directly usable: only on a compatible Petromax high-intensity lamp. System chain: HK lamp → mantle and lamp glass → parabolic surface → directed light area. Compatibility: HK250, HK350, and HK500; not specified for HK150 version.
Directed light instead of omnidirectional lighting
The reflector is especially useful when the lamp is at the edge of the usable area. From there, the light beam can point to a table, cooking area, workbench, or setup area, while the shielded side faces seated people, tent walls, or unused terrain.
If the lamp is in the middle of a group and should illuminate all sides evenly, the reflector works against this goal. Then the unchanged omnidirectional operation is usually more logical. The purchase decision therefore depends less on maximum brightness and more on the desired beam direction.
Mounting on the knurled nuts
Petromax attaches the parabolic reflector via two mounting arms next to the lamp’s knurled nuts. This positions the reflector surface to the side of the lamp glass. Before fixing the position, it should be clear where the light beam should point and which side should be protected from direct glare.
Mounting, alignment, and disassembly are done on the cold, switched-off lamp. During operation, the high-intensity lamp becomes hot; therefore, turning the reflector afterward is not a sensible method for fine adjustment. It is better to align the entire lamp correctly before starting.
Not combinable with the top reflector
The wide top reflector sits above the lamp and mainly directs light downward. The Parab
The ol-side reflector works laterally and bundles horizontally in one direction. Petromax explicitly states that both designs cannot be mounted simultaneously.
For a hanging lamp above a table, the top reflector is often the more suitable light guidance. For a lamp placed sideways that should illuminate a specific area, the parabolic reflector is the more targeted choice. These are not two quality levels, but different radiation concepts.
Difference from the half-round side reflector
The simple side reflector for HK350/HK500 encloses about half of the lamp glass and mainly works as a lateral reflection and glare protection surface. The parabolic reflector is positioned further to the side and explicitly uses its curved shape for the spotlight-like effect. In addition, its manufacturer approval includes the HK250.
Anyone who owns an HK350 or HK500 can therefore choose between compact shielding and a more directed parabolic effect. For the HK250, only the parabolic reflector is listed as suitable for these two shop items.
Brass or chrome-plated version?
This variant consists of polished brass. It is the visually matching choice for a brass lamp or a deliberately classic setup. The separately linked parabolic version is nickel-plated and chrome-plated and visually matches chrome lamps. Petromax describes the same light function and compatible sizes for both versions.
The decision between the two surfaces is therefore primarily a question of the lamp finish. The manufacturer does not specify any differing light performance between the brass and chrome versions.
Scope of delivery and confirmed data

Not included: Petromax high-intensity lamp, top reflector, side reflector, or other lamp accessories.
Petromax confirms material, function, mounting type, and compatibility with HK250, HK350, and HK500. The manufacturer does not publish dimensions and weight on the current product page of this brass version; therefore, these values are not adopted here from another surface variant.
Practical tips for the right light guidance

Place the lamp at the edge of the usable area
This way, the directed light portion can fall into the work or seating area, while the shielded side points outward. In the middle of a group, the reflector would deliberately cancel out part of the all-around effect.

Align the back to eye level
Place the reflector surface between the mantle and the people who should not look directly into the high-intensity light. The glare protection only works in the actually shielded direction.

Set the light target before starting
Align lamp and reflector on the table or work surface while everything is cold. A glowing high-intensity lamp is not the time for corrections on the mounting arms.

Choose top and side solution in advance
If light should fall down from a lamp hanging high, choose the top reflector. If a lamp placed sideways should shine horizontally, the parabolic reflector is more sensible.

Transport polished surface protected
Do not place the reflector loosely between heavy lamp parts. A deformed parabolic surface or scratched viewing surface impairs the clean look and can make the intended alignment more difficult.

Black-Raptor short summary:
Buy if: a brass HK250, HK350, or HK500 is placed sideways and its light should be directed specifically into an area.
Do not buy if: all-around light is desired, an HK150 is used, or a top reflector should remain mounted simultaneously.

FAQ
Does the reflector increase the lamp's light output? No. It does not generate additional output but bundles existing light in one direction.
Does the brass version fit the HK150? No. Petromax specifies this model for HK250, HK350 and HK500. There is a separate reflector version for the HK150.
Can the top reflector remain mounted? No. According to Petromax, the parabolic side reflector and top reflector cannot be mounted at the same time.
How does the parabolic reflector differ from the normal side reflector? The parabolic shape bundles the light like a spotlight. The normal side reflector encloses part of the glass and is only specified for HK350/HK500.
Is the lamp included in the delivery? No. Only the polished brass reflector is delivered. (Show description in original language)

HK250 · HK350 · HK500 · Messing
