Sauer exchange barrels with heavy contour are approximately 300 g heavier than the standard barrels, making the repeater more front-heavy and providing better oscillation behavior of the weapon. Additionally, the inherent precision of the barrel increases, and the recoil of the repeater rifle is reduced.
The fluting of the S404 exchange barrel significantly increases the surface area of the barrel. This allows the barrel to dissipate the heat generated during high shot sequences much more effectively. This prevents the annoying mirage above the barrel. The elegant aesthetics of the fluted barrel is convincing, as it visually integrates well into the overall appearance of the fine Sauer hunting rifles.
Sauer also offers a wide selection of calibers for the S404 even with the heavy barrels, with up to three barrel lengths available with and without sights and M 17x1 threads, depending on the caliber group.
The cold-hammered exchange barrels are manufactured at the Sauer location in Isny in the AllgÀu, thus they are "Made in Germany"
The barrels, made from a specially developed steel, are plasma-nitrided and have a hardened coating of 0.1 mm thickness. Inside, a soft steel core remains. This results in each barrel oscillating optimally and shooting very precisely. Therefore, Sauer guarantees a precision of under one MOA.
To protect against corrosion, the Sauer exchange barrels are additionally blued.

Sauer WechsellĂ€ufe mit Heavy-Kontur sind ca. 300 g schwerer als die StandardlĂ€ufe, dies macht den Repetierer kopflastiger und sorgt fĂŒr ein besseres Schwingverhalten der Waffe. AuĂerdem erhöht sich die EigenprĂ€zision des Laufes und der RĂŒckstoĂ der RepetierbĂŒchse ist geringer.
Durch die Kannelierung des S404 Wechsellaufes wird die LaufoberflĂ€che entscheidend vergröĂert. Dadurch kann der Lauf die WĂ€rme, welche bei hohen Schussfolgen entsteht, deutlich besser ableiten. Dies verhindert das leidige Flimmern ĂŒber dem Lauf. Die elegante Ăsthetik des kannelierten Laufes ĂŒberzeugt, er passt sich optisch prima in das Gesamtbild der edlen Sauer Jagdwaffen ein.
Sauer bietet auch bei den schweren LĂ€ufen eine groĂe Kaliberauswahl fĂŒr die S404 an, je nach Kalibergruppe sind bis zu drei LauflĂ€ngen mit und ohne Visierung und M 17x1 Gewinde erhĂ€ltlich.
Gefertigt werden die kaltgehĂ€mmerten WechsellĂ€ufe am Sauer-Standort in Isny im AllgĂ€u, sind also âMade in Germanyâ
Die aus einem eigens entwickeltem Stahl hergestellten LĂ€ufe sind plasmanitriert und haben dadurch einen 0,1mm starken, gehĂ€rteten Mantel. Innen bleibt ein weicher Stahlkern. Dies fĂŒhrt dazu, dass jeder Lauf optimal schwingt und sehr prĂ€zise schieĂt. Darum garantiert Sauer eine PrĂ€zision von unter einem MOA.
Zum Schutz gegen Korrosion werden die Sauer AustauschlĂ€ufe zusĂ€tzlich brĂŒniert.
