Repeater rifle Mauser Gewehr 88 in caliber 8x57IS WKII, modified for hunting with a shortened barrel, handguard, and bent bolt handle. The weapon is stamped with Loewe Berlin 1891. Additional stamps include the stamp Gew. 88 n.m. (new material), which means that the weapon comes from a batch starting in 1895, where more resilient Krupp steel was used for the system. The Z stamped on the top of the barrel sleeve indicates that a newer barrel with deeper grooves (0.15 mm instead of 0.10 mm) has been installed, while the S stamped below means that the weapon has been adjusted for the S cartridge introduced in 1904 with its larger bullet chamber.
The modifications of the weapon for hunting needs include a bent bolt handle, a shortened barrel and stock, a new sighting system, and the magazine box as well as the rear sight mount are engraved. Additionally, there is a butt plate with a flip cover for the compartment in the stock and a box cover with a hinge. The stock is cracked.
Unfortunately, the weapon is not matching numbers. It has been proofed by the German proof house and is accordingly stamped.
A beautiful collector's item that would enhance any collection.

Gebrauchtwaffe
Repetierbüchse Mauser Gewehr 88 im Kaliber 8x57IS WKII, als jagdlicher Umbau mit gekürztem Lauf Handschutz und gebogenem Kammerstengel. Die Waffe ist mit Loewe Berlin 1891 gestempelt. Hinzu kommen weitere Stempel wie der Stempel Gew. 88 n.m. (neues Material), welcher bedeutet, dass die Waffe aus einem Los ab 1895 stammt, bei dem für das Sytem wiederstandsfähigerer Krupp-Stahl verarbeitet wurde. Das auf der Oberseite der Laufhülse eingestempelte Z bedeutet, das ein neuerer Lauf mit tieferen Zügen (0,15 mm statt 0,10 mm) verbaut wurde, während das darunter eingestempelte S bedeutet, das die Waffe auf die ab 1904 eingeführte S-Patrone mit ihrem weiteren Geschossraum eingestellt wurde.
Die Anpassungen der Waffe an jagdliche Bedürfnisse beinhaltet einen gebogenen Kammerstengel, ein gekürzter Lauf sowie Schaft, eine neue Visiereinrichtung und der Magazinkasten sowie die Aufnahme der Kimme sind graviert. Hinzu kommen eine Schaftkappe mit Klappdeckel für das Fach im Schaft und ein Kastendeckel mit Scharnier. Der Schaft ist gerissen.
Die Waffe ist leider nicht nummerngleich. Sie wurde vom deutschen Beschussamt beschossen und ist entsprechend gestempelt.
Ein schönes Sammlerstück, das eine Bereicherung für jede Sammlung darstellt.
