Auction, classified or Buy It Now compared

Updated on October 08, 2026

On Gunfinder, you’ll find three types of listings: auction, classified ad, and “Buy Now.” They work differently – here’s what sets them apart and when each makes sense.

Auction

In an auction, you place bids; whoever has the highest bid at the end of the duration wins the item. A bidding agent can automatically bid up to your maximum amount for you. Auctions are great if you want to snag a bargain and the market price isn’t fixed. You can read all about the process at Auctions: bidding, winning, completing.

Classified Listing

A classified listing has a fixed price. You contact the seller and clarify the details – often there is some room for negotiation. This is the classic way if you want to buy calmly and coordinate.

Buy Now

With "Buy Now" you secure an item directly and bindingly – without auction end and without negotiating. The seller can activate this option for both auctions and listings. Ideal if you don’t want to risk someone beating you to it. More about this at Buy Now for Buyers.

What do they all have in common?

With all three methods, you handle payment and shipping directly with each other in the end – Gunfinder is not involved in the transaction. Always check the required purchase eligibility and follow our tips for safe trading.
