The Heckler & Koch HK P8 has been produced since 1992, is the service pistol of the Bundeswehr, and was the successor to the standard issue pistol Walther P1.
The P8 differs from the USP in the following characteristics: A second recoil spring on the guide rod provides better cushioning of the recoil. According to the specifications of the Bundeswehr, the pistol has a transparent, dust-protected magazine and a barrel with grooves and lands instead of a polygon profile. Furthermore, there is a P8-specific arrangement of the safety lever and decocking lever. The function is arranged from top to bottom: Fire, Safe, Decock.

(Show description in original language)Die Heckler & Koch HK P8 wird seit 1992 produziert, ist die Dienstpistole der Bundeswehr und war der Nachfolger der Ordonnanzpistole Walther P1.
Die P8 unterscheidet sich durch folgende Eigenschaften von der USP: Eine zweite Verschlussfeder auf der Federführungsstange bewirkt eine bessere Pufferung des Rückstoßes. Nach den Vorgaben der Bundeswehr hat die Pistole ein transparentes, staubgeschütztes Magazin und einen Lauf mit Zügen und Feldern statt des Polygonprofils. Weiterhin gibt es eine P8-spezifische Anordnung des Sicherungshebels und Entspannhebels. Die Funktion wurde von oben nach unten angeordnet: Feuer, Sicher, Entspannen.
