If you’ve been on Gunfinder in the last few days, you’ve probably noticed: the site got a facelift. Don’t worry, you don’t have to relearn anything. The search is where it always was, the menus lead where they always did, and your usual routines work as before. But everything looks fresher: homepage, search, listing pages, magazine, your profile. In this article, we’ll show you what’s changed and explain the decision we debated internally the longest.
Gunfinder has grown a lot over the years: in listings, features, and users like you. The design didn’t always keep up. A lot was cramped: small font, tight spacing, gray boxes, and a different shade at every corner. The most common feedback from users was: The site feels cluttered, even though you really just want one thing: to quickly find the right listing.
That’s exactly what we focused the facelift on. The base font is noticeably larger, the pages are brighter and airier, and our green has shifted from a constant background to a targeted accent: it now highlights what’s important. Buttons, active filters, availability, instead of filling entire areas. Maps and lists are separated by fine lines instead of shadows and gray tones. In short: less noise, more content with the familiar layout.
The one place where we did more than just polish is the core of Gunfinder: the search results. Until now, we displayed hits by default as cards in a grid: large images, few listings per screen. From now on, the default is a compact list. Why?
Because searching and browsing are two different things. When you browse, you go with the flow, and large images are just right for that. But when you search, you compare: the same bolt-action rifle from five dealers, the same scope in three conditions, the best price on the whole market. And for comparing, the list simply beats the grid:
And if you prefer cards? No problem: the toggle is right next to the sorting, and your choice is saved permanently. On category and browsing pages, cards remain the default anyway. There, the large image just fits discovery better. For us, default just means: the best preset for the respective purpose, not the only option.
The refreshed search has even more: Active filters now appear as small green chips directly above the results. So you always see why you’re getting these results and can remove a filter with one click on the cross, without searching in the filter bar. Next to it is the number of results along with the count of active filters.
We also changed something when typing: A new search now only starts when you submit it: with Enter or the search button. Previously, the results constantly reordered while typing, which confused more than helped. Filters still apply immediately, because clicking a filter is already a decision.
You’ve known the Dark Mode on Gunfinder for a while. What’s new is that it fully embraces the facelift: the dark view has been completely adjusted to the new color scheme, from the search to the listing pages and into the profile. As usual, you choose between Light, Dark, and Auto in the account menu. In Auto, Gunfinder simply follows your device’s settings.
A facelift only in the browser would be only half the story: Our apps for iOS and Android naturally wear the new look too. Same colors, same maps, same dark mode. If you already have the app, just update it. And if not yet: Get it in the App Store or on Google Play. With push notifications, you won’t miss any new listings for your saved searches.
A facelift is never finished, it gets finished in everyday use. We're already working on more areas and reading every piece of feedback. If you notice something that’s not quite right yet, or you have an idea to make the refreshed interface even better: Write to us. That’s exactly what we polished for. So Gunfinder feels just as it’s meant to: the fastest way to your next piece.
