CZ is a Czech firearms brand known for its high-quality pistols and rifles. The vz. 50 pistol, civilian designation ČZ 50, is a Czechoslovak self-loading pistol in caliber 7.65 × 17 mm. The ČZ 50 was developed by brothers Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl between 1947 and 1948 at the Czech arms factory Česká zbrojovka in Strakonice. The Kratochvíls adopted the design and operational principle of the Walther PP and PPK pistols. Until 1953, the pistols were manufactured in Strakonice, and thereafter in Prague. They were used by the Czech police and exported in large numbers. In 1970, the weapon was revised in detail and produced until 1983 as the ČZ 70. The total production amounted to about 270,000 units. The pistol is a recoil-operated design with an unlocked mass-breech. The ČZ 50 features a trigger tensioner, with the closing spring located on the barrel. The weapon consists of 48 (compared to the PPK with 41) individual parts. The safety lever is located on the left side of the frame, below the slide. The safety blocks the firing pin until the intended shot is fired. This allows the pistol to be loaded and cocked. As with the Walther pistols, the lower position is secured, while the upper is not. The trigger guard is part of the frame. To disassemble the weapon, there is a release lever located on the right side above the trigger guard.

Die Pistole vz. 50, zivile Bezeichnung ČZ 50, ist eine tschechoslowakische Selbstladepistole im Kaliber 7,65 × 17 mm. Die ČZ 50 wurde von den Brüdern Jan und Jaroslav Kratochvíl zwischen 1947 und 1948 in der tschechischen Waffenfabrik Česká zbrojovka in Strakonice entwickelt. Die Kratochvíls übernahmen das Konstruktions- und Funktionsprinzip der Walther-Pistolen PP und PPK. Bis 1953 wurden die Pistolen in Strakonice, danach in Prag hergestellt. Sie wurden von der tschechischen Polizei verwendet und in großer Zahl exportiert. 1970 wurde die Waffe in Details überarbeitet und bis 1983 als ČZ 70 hergestellt. Die Gesamtstückzahl belief sich auf etwa 270.000 Stück. Die Pistole ist ein Rückstoßlader mit unverriegeltem Masseverschluss. Die ČZ 50 ist ein Abzugsspanner, die Schließfeder steckt auf dem Lauf. Die Waffe besteht aus 48 (im Gegensatz zur PPK mit 41) Einzelteilen. Der Sicherungshebel befindet sich auf der linken Seite des Rahmens, unter dem Schlitten. Die Sicherung blockiert den Schlagbolzen bis zur beabsichtigten Schussabgabe. Dadurch kann die Pistole geladen und gespannt geführt werden. Wie bei den Walther-Pistolen ist die untere Position gesichert, die obere entsichert. Der Abzugsbügel ist Bestandteil des Rahmens. Um die Waffe zerlegen zu können, befindet sich auf der rechten Seite oberhalb des Abzugsbügels ein Entsperrhebel.
