From Atago to outdoor oven. The Petromax Atago grill hood made of stainless steel traps rising heat and turns your Atago into a mobile baking and cooking station with top and bottom heat. Suddenly, pizza, bread, roasts, oven vegetables, and small campfire desserts are no longer improvisations but planned.
The hood is fixed to the Atago with a bracket, the rotating handle helps with space-saving storage, and the air vents support circulation so that charcoal or briquettes don’t suffocate. According to the manufacturer, the hood also ensures more efficient operation because heat is better collected and less fuel may be needed.
Why the grill hood upgrades the Atago
Transforms the Petromax Atago into a mobile outdoor oven.
Combines top and bottom heat for pizza, bread, roasts, and casseroles.
Stainless steel construction with included bracket.
Air vents for circulation and more even ember distribution.
Rotating handle for compact storage.
Manufacturer data: approx. 18.9 x 35.3 x 35.3 cm, approx. 1.055 kg.
Reliable usage tips
Preheating is worth it: bring Atago, grate/stone, and hood to temperature for 10-15 minutes.
For pizza and tarte flambée, apply heat rather indirectly/ring-shaped so the bottom doesn’t burn before the topping is done.
For bread and cake, use less embers under the center and instead calm convection under the hood.
Only touch the hood with heat protection and direct steam/condensate away from your face when opening.
Wind strongly affects heat. In gusts, place it more sheltered and check more often.
After baking, let it burn out, remove the handle, and clean the stainless steel according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Recipe box 1: Campfire tarte flambée
Setup: Preheat pizza stone or suitable baking surface, medium to strong embers, bring hood to temperature.
Topping: Crème fraîche, red onions, bacon or smoked tofu, pepper, chives.
Tip: Apply thinly and check after a few minutes. If the bottom darkens quickly, move embers to the side and let the hood work more with top heat.
Recipe box 2: Small Atago bread
Setup: Place pre-shaped dough in a small form or on a suitable baking base. Moderate embers, keep hood closed.
Dough idea: Flour, water, yeast or sourdough, salt, a bit of oil. Prepared dough from the box also works for on the go.
Tip: Don’t open constantly. Bread needs stable heat. If the crust darkens too fast, reduce bottom heat.
Recipe box 3: Oven vegetables with feta
Setup: Use cast iron or heatproof dish, roughly chop vegetables, mix with oil and spices.
Mix: Pre-cooked or small-cut potatoes, bell pepper, zucchini, red onion, feta, rosemary.
Tip: Don’t overfill the dish. Spread flat so heat and steam can work and nothing gets mushy.
Recipe box 4: Apple crumble from the fire
Setup: Apple pieces in a small cast iron or stainless steel dish, crumble topping of butter, flour, oats, sugar, and cinnamon on top.
Tip: Moderate heat is enough. When the crumble gets color and the apples are soft, share directly from the dish with spoons. That’s exactly the moment you cook outside for.
Petromax vibe
The grill hood is that accessory that turns “we’re grilling briefly” into a real outdoor meal. Pizza in the forest, bread by the lake, crumble after sunset. No screen, no delivery service, just embers, stainless steel, and people moving closer to the table.
Buying decision
If you only use the Atago as an open grill, the hood is an upgrade. But if you want to bake, cook indirectly, and get pizza or bread cleaner, it’s one of the most important Atago accessories. For perfect pizza, the combination with a suitable pizza stone becomes especially interesting.
FAQ
Do I absolutely need a pizza stone? No, but for pizza, tarte flambée, and bread, a suitable stone improves bottom heat and ensures crispier
Results.
Do I need to grease the hood? No. The hood is not cookware with a patina build-up. It is kept clean, not seasoned.
Can I save fuel with it? Yes, according to the manufacturer, the hood can capture rising heat and thus enable more efficient operation.

Petromax Atago · Backen · indirekte Hitze
