About Ullfrotté 400
Ullfrotté Original 400 grams can be used in cooler conditions or when you are not moving around much. Then wear one of our thinner Woolpower LITE or Ullfrotté 200 base layers underneath, which are specifically designed to be worn directly against the skin. By wearing Woolpower directly on the skin, you can take advantage of all the positive properties of Merino wool.
About Wool
The crimped structure of the wool fiber traps large amounts of air and provides good thermal insulation. The air between the fibers reduces heat transfer in the material and thus has an insulating effect against heat and cold. Merino wool can have up to 40 crimps per centimeter, resulting in a high insulation rate. The crimps of the fibers also mean that there are fewer contact points between the material and the skin, which is also beneficial for trapping air and dissipating heat.
With increased activity or higher ambient temperatures, the body produces sweat to cool down, and the moisture content rises. Wool is hygroscopic and can absorb water vapor, thus moisture from the body. Wool can absorb moisture both between the fibers and within the fiber, which means that wool remains dry against the skin even when it is damp.
The wool fiber can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. Wool also generates heat when it is damp. When moisture is absorbed, heat is released in an exothermic (chemical heat release) process. Heat energy is released when water and polar molecular groups of the fiber collide. Über Wolle
Die gekräuselte Struktur der Wollfaser bindet große Mengen Luft und sorgt für gute Wärmeisolierung. Die Luft zwischen den Fasern reduziert die Wärmeübertragung im Material und hat somit eine isolierende Wirkung gegen Wärme und Kälte. Merinowolle kann bis zu 40 Kräuselungen pro Zentimeter haben, was zu einer hohen Isolationsrate führt. Die Kräuselungen der Fasern bedeuten außerdem, dass es weniger Kontaktpunkte zwischen dem Material und der Haut gibt, was auch von Vorteil ist, um Luft zu binden und Wärme abzuleiten.
Bei erhöhter Aktivität oder höheren Temperaturen in der Umgebung produziert der Körper Schweiß, um sich abzukühlen und der Feuchtigkeitsgehalt steigt. Wolle ist hygroskopisch und kann Wasserdampf aufnehmen, also Feuchtigkeit vom Körper.
