Give and receive ratings

Updated on October 12, 2026

After a trade, you can rate the other person with one of three smileys: Good, Okay, or Bad. These ratings create the share of positive ratings that other users see on your profile and your listings. Here you’ll learn when you can rate, where to find the rating, and how we calculate it.

When you can leave a review

You can leave a review for anyone you have traded with via the Gunfinder chat. Once you’ve exchanged a few messages, the Review button will appear at the top of the conversation next to your trading partner’s name. It stays subtle while you’re still negotiating: no one should review before the trade is completed.

If the trade seems completed, we’ll remind you to leave a review. This happens if the item is marked as sold or deleted, if your trading partner has already reviewed you, or if a day has passed since the last message. Then a card asking about your experience appears at the end of the conversation, and your message list will show the conversation marked with Review. If you continue messaging after that, the card disappears again until things settle down. The button at the top remains in any case—you decide when to leave your review.

How to leave a review

  1. Open the conversation with your dealer.
  2. Click Review at the top or use the card at the end of the conversation.
  3. Choose a smiley: Good, Okay, or Bad.

Clicking the smiley saves the review immediately. You can leave exactly one review per conversation, and it cannot be changed afterwards. Be objective: How was the communication, transaction, and condition of the item?

Where reviews appear and how we calculate them

We don’t show individual reviews, but the share of positive reviews: what percentage of all received reviews were Good. Okay neither counts for nor against, Bad lowers the share. The number of reviews is shown so you can judge how reliable the value is.

  • The share appears from three reviews onwards. Before that, we only show how many reviews someone has.
  • For the share, only reviews from the last 24 months count. If someone has received fewer than three reviews in that time, we calculate with all previous reviews.
  • Sellers and buyers are rated separately. On a listing or auction and on the dealer page, you only see the reviews as a seller. On the profile, you see both roles, plus the distribution of Good, Okay and Bad and the date of the last review.

The smiley next to the share sums up the picture: from 90 percent positive it smiles, from 70 percent it looks neutral, below that it looks sad.

Get good reviews yourself

  • Respond quickly and friendly via the Gunfinder chat.
  • Describe your items honestly and completely, including signs of use.
  • Stick to agreements on payment and shipping.
  • Leave feedback after every trade. Those who review usually get reviewed too.

For serious issues: don’t just leave a bad rating, report it

If a user really stands out negatively or you suspect fraud, don’t just leave a bad rating, but report the profile to us so we can check it. How to report users and listings, you can read under Safe trading on Gunfinder.
