Frequently asked questions about the search
Here we answer the most common questions about searching on Gunfinder – from filters to advanced search to watchlists and saved searches.
What is Gunfinder?
Gunfinder is a marketplace and search engine for products related to hunting and shooting sports. We search online marketplaces, exchanges, and dealer shops so you can compare listings and see who currently has your desired product in stock.
How do the filters work?
With the filters, you can narrow down your search precisely:
- Condition: New, used or both
- Listing type: Direct, auction or both
- Purchase eligibility: all products, only unrestricted or only restricted – according to the license classes of your country
- Caliber: your desired caliber
- Dealer: include or exclude specific dealers
- Price: minimum and maximum price
- Postal code: postal code and radius for listings near you
- Available immediately: hides unavailable listings
- % Offers: shows only discounted items
Please note: The filters “Caliber” and “Purchase eligibility” are still in beta – occasional errors may occur here.
How do I sort the search results?
Use the sorting option at the top right above the results to choose between Relevance, Cheapest first, Most expensive first, and Newest first.
What is the advanced search?
With the advanced search you define your search more precisely. You can also use these parameters directly in the search bar:
- If you put terms in quotation marks („Hornady 8x57“ lead-free), only results containing the terms in exactly that order will appear.
- With a hyphen before a term (Sauer Artemis -shotgun) you exclude it.
What is the watchlist?
If you like a listing, click the bookmark icon to save it. You can access your watchlist later via My Gunfinder (right below the search bar) and manage it there.
How do saved searches work?
If you want to be notified about new results for a search, click Save search after entering your search term and filters. We will ask for your email address and send you a confirmation email. After that, you will receive a daily update as soon as there are new listings – the new results appear at the top. You can manage them under “My Gunfinder” and unsubscribe via the link in the update email.
Why can't I see my watchlist and my searches?
“My Gunfinder” is tied to your browser. If you use a different computer or browser or clear the cache, the entries won’t be shown. As soon as you use the original browser again, they will be there again.
