The Sauer 505 and 404 barrel with heavy contour is approximately 300 g heavier than a standard barrel. It is fluted and its surface has a DLC coating. The barrel has an M17x1 muzzle thread, is without sights, and depending on caliber and personal choice, is 47, 51, or 56 cm long.

The heavier heavy contour barrels make the repeater front-heavy and provide better oscillation behavior. Additionally, the inherent precision of the barrel increases, and the recoil of the repeater rifle is reduced.
DLC coating
The surfaces of the barrels made by Sauer from a specially developed steel are equipped with a DLC coating. DLC stands for "Diamond Like Carbon." This type of coating is very environmentally friendly and biocompatible compared to galvanic coatings. Through a thin-film coating process, the coated components become particularly resistant and very smooth.
The fluting
The cold-hammered heavy contour barrel is fluted. This offers the advantage that the increased surface area of the barrel due to the fluting dissipates heat more quickly, so that even with high shot sequences, no disturbing heat mirage occurs. Another advantage of fluting is weight reduction.

Die schwereren Heavy-Kontur-Läufe machen den Repetierer kopflastig und sorgen für ein besseres Schwingverhalten. Außerdem erhöht sich die Eigenpräzision des Laufes und der Rückstoß der Repetierbüchse ist geringer.
DLC-Beschichtung
Die Oberfläche des von Sauer aus einem eigens entwickelten Stahl hergestellten Laufs ist mit einer DLC-Beschichtung versehen. DLC steht für „Diamond Like Carbon“. Diese Beschichtungsart ist im Gegensatz zu galvanischen Beschichtungen sehr umweltschonend und bioverträglich. Durch ein Dünnfilmbeschichtungsverfahren werden die beschichteten Komponenten besonders widerstandsfähig und sehr glatt.
Die Kannelierung
Der kaltgehämmerte Heavy-Kontur-Lauf ist kanneliert. Das bietet den Vorteil, dass die durch die Kannelierung vergrößerte Oberfläche des Laufs die Wärme schneller ableitet, so dass auch bei hohen Schussfolgen kein störendes Hitzeflimmern auftritt. Ein weiterer Vorteil der Kannelierung ist die Gewichtsreduktion.
