The new RS 3 from Walther: Rifle – Short – Safe – Silent. The RS 3 Pro Pine bolt-action rifle from Walther is compact, safe, and quiet, catering to the increasing popularity of hunting with a silencer, using a revolutionary construction principle. The use of a silencer protects hearing, does not scare off game, and makes shooting more comfortable. These advantages have previously come with disadvantages that could only be inadequately compensated for in traditionally built rifles. To keep the rifle compact, the barrels were shortened, which reduced the ballistic performance of the ammunition. To retain this performance, one had to accept an unwieldy long and front-heavy rifle.
Considering this, Walther has followed new ideas with the RS 3 series. In these bolt-action rifles, everything is designed for the silencer without shortening the barrels. The system has simply been moved back, resulting in a compact and balanced rifle with the same barrel length and silencer.
The Stock
In the Pro Pine version of the RS 3 straight-pull repeater, the one-piece hole stock is made of durable synthetic material in pine green. The cheek piece and grip areas feature tactile pleasant elastomer inserts in contrasting black. At the end of the fore-end, this Pro version has a magnetic socket with a magnetic cover, which serves for the optional attachment of a bipod from Walther or another suitable shooting rest.
Due to the compact design of the rifle, the hand tension is located in the thumb hole of the buttstock. It is intuitively tensioned when shouldering, and the safety status of the rifle is always perceptible with the shooting hand, additionally indicated by color (red-green). This construction makes shouldering and tensioning a fluid motion.
The Walther detachable magazine is also located in the stock behind the pistol grip. It has a capacity of 6 rounds in standard calibers and 5 rounds in magnum calibers. The magazine has a lock against accidental release, consisting of 2 locking wings that must be pressed simultaneously when removing or changing it.
The System
Due to the unusual position of the system in the rifle, innovative solutions had to be found during construction. The heart of the RS 3 rifle is a 64 cm long single-frame housing. The monocoque system is machined from solid aluminum, making it absolutely precise and also lightweight. The bolt consists of a 3-lug rotating head. The center of gravity of the rifle is at the level of the trigger guard, making it perfectly balanced.
The RS 3 rifle is a straight-pull repeater, which facilitates comfortable operation with quick follow-up shots. The chamber grip ball is optimally sized and perfectly placed. This allows for cycling while maintaining sight on the target. A re-tensioning occurs during the cycling process, so one is immediately ready to shoot again. The performance hunting trigger breaks cleanly at a resistance weight of 800 g. The surfaces of the system and the barrel are carbonized.
The Barrel
The length of the 17 mm barrel is 58 cm for the standard calibers .308Win and .30-06Spring, and 62 cm for the magnum version with .300WinMag. The normal-length barrels allow for a total length of compact 104 or 108 cm thanks to the described innovative construction principle. The barrel has no sights; at its muzzle, there is a Zerolock quick coupling for mounting the silencer. On the barrel sits the base for the Walther Fixlock mount, which is available for optics with and without rails, for red dot sights, and for Picatinny rails (not included).
The Silencer
The RS 3 rifles are only delivered complete with the Walther QSA silencer. However, due to legal regulations, it is necessary to order the silencer separately. You can do this. It is made of tenifer-treated high-performance steel and has a hard-anodized aluminum tube. The attachment to the barrel is simple and precise using the Zerolock quick coupling.

Das RS 3 Pro Pine-Repetiergewehr von Walther ist kompakt, sicher und leise, es kommt damit der zunehmenden Beliebtheit des Jagens mit Schalldämpfer nach, und zwar mit einem revolutionären Konstruktionsprinzip. Der Einsatz eines Schalldämpfers schützt das Gehör, schreckt das Wild nicht auf und macht das Schießen komfortabler. Diese Vorteile gingen bisher mit Nachteilen einher, die bei traditionell gebauten Gewehren nur unzureichend wettgemacht werden konnten. Um die Büchse kompakt zu halten, wurden die Läufe gekürzt, was die ballistische Leistung der Munition reduzierte. Um diese zu behalten, musste man eine unhandlich lange und kopflastige Büchse in Kauf nehmen.
Dies bedenkend, ist Walther bei der RS 3-Reihe neuen Ideen gefolgt. Bei diesen Repetierern ist alles auf den Schalldämpfer ausgelegt, ohne dafür die Läufe kürzer zu machen. Denn das System wurde einfach nach hinten verlegt, was mit der gleichen Lauflänge mit Schalldämpfer eine dennoch kompakte und ausbalancierte Büchse ergibt.
Der Schaft
Bei der Pro Pine-Ausführung des RS 3-Geradezugrepetierers besteht der einteilige Lochschaft aus widerstandsfähigem Synthetik-Material in Piniengrün. An der Backe und an den Griffflächen befinden sich in kontrastierendem Schwarz haptisch angenehme Elastomer-Einlagen. Am Ende des Vorderschaft ist bei dieser Pro-Ausführung eine magnetische Buchse mit einer ebenfalls magnetischen Abdeckung angebracht, sie dient der optionalen Aufnahme eines Bipods von Walther oder einer anderen entsprechenden Schießauflage.
Durch die kompakte Bauweise des Gewehrs befindet sich die Handspannung in dem Daumenloch des Hinterschafts. Gespannt wird intuitiv beim Anschlagen, der Sicherheitsstand des Gewehrs ist dabei mit der Schusshand stets spürbar, zusätzlich wird er farblich (rot-grün) angezeigt. Diese Konstruktion macht Anlegen und Spannen zu einer fließenden Bewegung.
Auch das Walther Reihenmagazin befindet sich im Schaft hinter dem Pistolengriff. Es hat eine Kapazität von 6 Schuss in den Standard- und 5 Schuss in den Magnum-Kalibern. Das Magazin hat eine Sperre gegen versehentliches Lösen, bestehend aus 2 Rastflügeln, die beim Entnehmen oder einem Wechsel gleichzeitig gedrückt werden müssen.
Das System
Wegen der unüblichen Position, die das System in dem Gewehr hat, mussten bei der Konstruktion innovative Lösungen gefunden werden. Das Herzstück der RS 3-Büchse ist ein 64 cm langes Single-Frame-Gehäuse. Das Monocoque-System wurde aus vollem Aluminium gefräst, was es absolut präzise und zudem leicht macht. Der Verschluss besteht aus einem 3-Warzen Drehkopf. Der Schwerpunkt des Gewehrs befindet sich auf der Höhe des Abzugsbügels, damit ist es perfekt ausbalanciert.
Die RS 3-Büche ist ein Geradezug-Repetierer, was einem komfortablen Bedienen mit schnellen Schussfolgen entgegenkommt. Die Kammergriffkugel ist optimal dimensioniert und perfekt platziert. So kann im Anschlag repetiert werden, ohne dabei das Ziel aus den Augen zu verlieren. Eine Nachspannung erfolgt während des Repetiervorgangs, so dass man direkt wieder schussbereit ist. Der Performance Jagdabzug bricht trocken bei einem Widerstandsgewicht von 800 g. Die Oberflächen des Systems und des Laufs sind carbonisiert.
Der Lauf
Die Länge des 17-mm-Laufs beträgt 58 cm bei den Standard-Kalibern .308Win und .30-06Spring bzw. 62 cm bei der Magnum-Version mit .300WinMag. Die normallangen Läufe ermöglichen dank des beschriebenen innovativen Konstruktionsprinzips eine Gesamtlänge von kompakten 104 bzw. 108 cm. Der Lauf hat keine Visierung, an seiner Mündung befindet sich eine Zerolock Schnellkupplung für die Montage des Schalldämpfers. Auf dem Lauf sitzt die Basis zur Aufnahme der Walther Fixlock-Montage, die es für Optiken mit und ohne Schiene, für Leuchtpunktvisiere und für Picatinny-Schienen gibt (nicht inklusive).
Der Schalldämpfer
Die RS 3-Büchsen werden nur komplett mit dem Walther QSA Schalldämpfer geliefert. Wegen der gesetzlichen Lage ist es allerdings notwendig, den Schalldämpfer separat zu bestellen. Dieses können Sie tun. Er ist aus teniferiertem Hochleistungsstahl gefertigt und hat einen hart-eloxiertem Aluminium-Tube. Die Befestigung am Lauf erfolgt einfach und präzise mittels der Zerolock Schnellkupplung.
