Si tratta di calibri per bossoli di tipo standard (Regular Style) in un unico pezzo che controllano la lunghezza totale per indicare la necessità di trimmatura, il "punto dato" dalla spalla per assicurare il corretto headspace e per prevenire il ridimensionamento eccessivo. Disponibile per i più diffusi bossoli rimless. Il calibro permette di vedere quanto si sta arretrando la spalla del bossolo.
Il modo migliore per farlo è seguire i passaggi seguenti:
Misurare un bossolo in condizioni di AS-FIRED.
Prendere nota della misura del headspace
Ridimensionare il bossolo con l'attuale impostazione del die
Riposizionare poi il bossolo nel calibro per vedere quanto si sta arretrando la spalla. Questo può essere misurato utilizzando il micrometro per la profondità del Case Gage.
Infine, regolare la matrice per il ridimensionamento in base all'arretramento della spalla desiderato.
Dopo aver dimensionato i bossoli, è molto probabile che l'ottone si allunghi. Il calibro controllerà anche la lunghezza minima e massima del bossolo e indicherà la necessità di rifilare il bossolo. Si tratta di uno strumento essenziale per ogni ricaricatore.
